Jalen Duren plans to explore sign-and-trade scenarios after contract negotiations have stalled out with the Pistons, per @sam_amick (nytimes.com/athletic/73969…). There is a large enough gap in value from Duren’s camp and Detroit where he feels like it’s best to now play elsewhere.

Utah Jazz are pretty much set for next season. I think they just need 1 or 2 of: ◾️Marcus Smart (Ainge connection) ◾️Quentin Grimes (Wanted him in Donovan trade talks) ◾️Mike Conley (ik he’s cooked but as the 8th or 9th player in the regular season rotation would be awesome for this Jazz squad IMO)

@kodon23 @Tjonesonthenba If you trade him you are left with no centers and severely limit the ceiling of this team. If there are better deals out there in the center market no one is going to offer more than 28 to Kessler. If they do then all you’ll find in the market are worse deals

@Tjonesonthenba Walker at this point is a slightly more talented Mitch Rob. His strength is that he brings the jazz things that nobody else does. But if you pay a Walker type player 30+ at this stage (before he proofed to be durable and effective) you limit the ceiling of this team significantly

@SpencerKeele Donovan was cool with Utah when he was rookie.

After Donovan Mitchell, I think if a high caliber rookie is at least cool with Utah, that should hold a little 🤏 weight. Not a ton, but it could be a tie breaker.

@UtahJazzShow @iwasmmueller88 My prediction is that he is at least competitive for 3rd team, like KAT/Sabonis/Randle the last few years. Depends on how JJJ and Kessler pan out. Summer of 28 would be extension talks for Lauri and when Ace gets paid. Then we can figure out what to sell

@TheLongEcon @iwasmmueller88 I mean, all nba is a pretty big assumption there… I like Lauri, I don’t like his contract, and that’s what the Jazz are going to need to get off from. And if you see Ace progressing towards taking that spot anyway, do you trade Lauri while he’s got a lot of trade value? Or wait?

Reality time. The Jazz can pay the core of the roster for 2-3 more years and be okay. 3 at most. Ultimately someone is getting moved. And it's either: Lauri/JJJ (Don't think WK just due to contract timing). or Key Sadly the math doesn't really work to keep all those dudes.

@JeffBiesinger I was just responding to a prediction that Ace would pass Lauri this next year. Either they are sleeping on Lauri or think Ace is a top 25 all time player

I think Jazz fans underestimate how well Lauri’s game will age. He’s going to be good until he’s 38. He plays so similarly to Dirk.

@UtahJazzShow @iwasmmueller88 Lauri first season here, he looked really good. I think if the Jazz had been a playoff team he could have been all-nba. I think Lauri gets at least close to that again, so it would be crazy for Ace to pass him in the next 2 years.

@TheLongEcon @iwasmmueller88 Sure, I think the year 2 of that plan is this next season. If Ace progresses as expected, he probably overtakes Lauri, allowing us to move off his contract while his value is still high
