I recently managed to ferret my way into a green room where Robert De Niro was waiting to speak at an anti-Trump rally. I found a man confused, angry and bewildered at what America had become. So if you’re a Republican still betting your future on this man’s loyalty — understand one thing clearly. There is no loyalty. There is only the transaction. And you’re not the one getting paid.

The core premise—mental patients (or their descendants) forming their own self-sustaining society with clans, political factions, councils, coups, and power struggles. In it, psychiatric patients from Earth colonize a moon and organize into “clans” based on their diagnoses (e.g., paranoids as the political/statesman class in “Adolfville,” manics, hebephrenics, etc.). These groups develop their own political ideals, intrigues, and conventions-like power plays, all while Earth tries to reassert control. It’s a sharp, satirical dystopia laced with paranoia, identity breakdown, and questions about what “sanity” even means in a broken society—perfectly aligned with the “dystopian scary” vibe of 1960s counterculture and the emerging anti-psychiatry movement. Amazon is in development of making a series based on the novel.

@neoavatara @bonchieredstate The Europeans have forgotten why governments exist. Governments exist primarily to protect their borders & their citizens. All else is secondary. Every so often a Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia or Imperial Japan comes along to remind them of this fact.

1. Then you can't expect them to be ready for a war. There is a lot of logistics involved (Trump himself took months to get assets in place!). Why wouldn't other countries need as long as Trump did? 2. Involving them the day of the attack was far too late. By Trump's own standards! Unless you think the US could have started the war months ago, without assets in place. 3. The same point is still correct. 4. The only time NATO has had to react is...after 9/11. If there is a one sidedness here, it is in FAVOR of the United States. 5. Trump is treating the Europeans as vassals, not equals. And NATO is, by its own charter, supposed to be a group of equals. Its Trump that fundamentally doesn't understand what NATO ever stood for, that is quite clear from his behavior. 6. You never answered the question about Poland.

I refuse to believe you guys don't see the problem here. It's one thing for the Europeans not to provide direct support for the operation. It's another for France to deny the use of its airspace for cargo deliveries or for the UK to muddle over domestic base usage. There is no point in being in an alliance that can't provide such basic guarantees of cooperation.

@neoavatara @bonchieredstate Most of our NATO allies can't assist in any meaningful way because they've spent money that should've gone to defense to prop up their ridiculously generous entitlement programs. A NATO IG report a few years ago noted mighty Germany could barely field a single armored brigade.
