@ArtemisConsort @cremieuxrecueil Yep, some experiences are universal. Universal experiences underpin conservative political philosophy at the core level, which is why sustained disinformation campaigns are required to persuade people to leftism in the first place.

One thing I could never swallow even as a progressive is that general intelligence doesn’t exist or isn’t largely innate. I didn’t know anything about psychometrics at the time, but it’s just painfully obvious if you’ve ever interacted with multiple humans that there is such a thing. Conversational fluency, wit, conceptual comprehension, etc. I immediately dismiss anyone who denies the existence of general intelligence differences between *individuals* as a liar, because we all directly perceive it. You don’t need any specialized knowledge.
Crémieux@cremieuxrecueil

What is intelligence? I see too many posts about this on here. So: It's content-free and it permeates all dimensions of cognitive performance. It transcends culture and can be measured with basically any test or feat, so long as it discriminates among individuals in a fair way.

It’s already happening. News stations saying you have to file your tax returns by 4/15. 🤦🏼‍♀️. I posted this on FB and asked a friend who’s a news anchor at another station if they would please mention that you have until 10/15 if you file an extension, and she said she will! 😃

@_DOGPOOL_ Heh, I rescued a baby possum with a girlfriend once. She was...uncomfortable. Three days later, it had a name, blankets, and fresh fruit every day. When I started leaving its cage open, I had to explain that it was still a wild animal and needed freedom to leave as it grew up.

She just called again on her way home. I had to explain that giving some food and shelter was different than adopting it. Not sure it that's it's gameplan. She has a cat bed, food, some kind of tent and other stuff. Kinda cool how it went from scared to I want to hug you though. Hope she lets me know. 😂

Just got a panicked call about a rogue possum in a lady's garage. He was hiding by her steps by the water heater, not aggressive. I assured her he/she was no threat. It was trying to live, or it wouldn't be there. I explained that its currently 14 degrees and that is the reason. She is leaving the door cracked for it now and gave it a blanket before going to work. Likely will either move in or be gone before she returns. Let em be if you find them please. If they aren't hurting anything why not?

@BMFiore2 National brands don't tend to invest in quality techs. Their pay structure incentives the worst actors. The best advice for someone like the OP is to get a CO detector and put it close to the first supply vent coming from the furnace.

Can we really stop pretending the hvac industry is full of stand out individuals? I've seen a national brand condem a 3 year old furnace they installed (until they were reminded they installed it, i had removed their stickers but the AC installer sticker was still on the evap)

@SatoshiCryptic Yes, from a company perspective they won't. But natural draft furnaces have a slight vacuum on the burner side and the air side is pressurized by the fan, your crack has house air going up the chimney not exhaust coming into the house

15 below zero yesterday and it happens.... furnace goes out, 😬 nightmare fuel type stuff. No warning signs, just a completely dead furnace that is past its life expectancy. Frantically calling around to see if anyone can come out TONIGHT. After several failed attempts, I find someone. Furnace has a seized motor BUT he also discovers something much worse, a cracked heat exchange. Can't repair because it's a major carbon monoxide safety issue. Nightmare intensifies... It's not just about being cold, pipes could freeze and wreak havoc. Can't repair and need a complete replacement. Last minute family camp out in the living room. Grab your space heater and crank the fireplace... Pray. Fast forward 24 hours later and an emergency Sunday installation and I'm now sitting here with a brand new furnace pumping hot air through the house. (Low tonight is expected to be -17 ) Amazing the things we take for granted. God is good.

its hard for me to see how this ends well for the administration unless their actual aim in minneapolis has been to collect every left wing street fighter in the country in one place and get them organizing criminal conspiracies on messaging apps in a manner that can be ingested as sigint and reconstructed in parallel for scaled prosecution of hundreds or thousands of people as a criminal conspiracy that rolls up the activist networks. and tbqh i dont think theyre focused enough to be doing that

We wanted to understand why Medicaid agencies were proliferating in Maine, so we obtained spending data by provider for 2019-2024. When we eliminated firms that billed some amount in 2019 or 2020, these were the start-ups we were left with.

@ContrarianDan92 @Fat_Electrician @jonbrooks It is very, very difficult to build a sustainable business model on troubleshooting complicated machines. Eventually, you realize that the entire industry is built on planned obsolescence and pushes replacements over repairs.

I think that businesses in the trades make their money from selling new units rather than repairing old ones. A friend told me yesterday that if one were to get into hvac etc that one should stick to the cities due to the lack of repair knowledge and disposable incomes. Some of this becomes predatory at a point, but it is a necessary thing.

Everyone keeps saying “go into the trades.” I get it — but here’s my real experience: Called a local company to fix an icemaker on a 2007 fridge that still runs great. Tech shows up. Takes a picture. Can’t fix it. Charges $99 just for showing up. Then quotes me $1,300 to replace the icemaker. So I do what everyone can do now: I ChatGPT the model number. In 2 seconds: • Exact replacement part • Direct phone number • Cost: $300 Installation? 2 screws. 10 minutes. I’ll do it myself. Same thing happened with my pool heater: Repair guy quoted $2,000. I bought the part directly and fixed it myself for under $200. The problem isn’t the trades. It’s that information asymmetry is gone — and some businesses haven’t realized it yet.

@The_OriginalOB I don't see a simpler option for Christians than to follow the layout in Acts. Be baptized for the remission of sins, repent, accept the Holy Spirit and the gifts that come with the presence of Christ. Study the Word and apply it. Less stress that way, yeah?

If you overgeneralize and group behaviors together before dismissing them, it’s easier on your brain. Less nuance, less thinking, thus, less stress But obviously, the goal isn’t less stress when it comes to sifting through these issues. Let’s do better.
Oliver Burdick@oliverburdick

Christianity has become so convoluted. One church has a pride flag on its front door, another has a woman as its leader, another is speaking gibberish and rolling around on the floor, another has a pastor who is also somehow a billionaire, another preaches that Jesus is Satan’s long-lost brother, and another isn’t even using the Bible anymore. Where did we go wrong?

@Cernovich As a conservative, I have no reason to care more about Qatar than Saudi Arabia. Rich Islamic oil barons seem much the same to me in attitude, dress and geopolitical maneuvering. Islam is a cancer, regardless of which plateau, island, or desert it metastasizes from.

This Won't Be Popular. Right-wingers (I am one) are running a Motte-and-Bailey on pedophilia and jailbait. IMO, it is wicked to conflate pedophilia (sexual attraction to pre-pubescents) with jailbait. In fact, this distinction is so crystal clear that I harbor dark suspicions about the motives of people who try to blur it, for the same reason I don't leave male feminists alone with Mrs. Jerk. "Thou doth protest too much" is the reddest of red flags.
Dr. Insensitive Jerk@DrInsensitive

Be on guard against a popular Leftist trick: The motte-and-bailey fallacy. This fallacy (named after the motte-and-bailey castle) is a rhetorical fraud that conflates two superficially similar arguments: one harmless (the "motte") and one subversive (the "bailey"). The Leftist advances the subversive argument, but when challenged, insists they are promoting only the harmless one. Upon retreating to the motte, the Leftist claims you have not refuted the bailey (because you refused to attack the motte) or that you are being unreasonable (by equating an attack on the bailey with an attack on the motte.) Here is an example:

I was about the only right wing person talking about Qatar until last week. That’s why the Qatar stuff seems inauthentic. For crying out loud, I even did a documentary on it. Conservative podcasters and media had zero interest in it.

You know what Charlie criticized a lot more than Israel? Islam. There are some very powerful people and governments who are invested in the Islamification of the West. So if we’re just asking questions… why not these questions?

"This country isn’t yours, you don't own it, it never was, there is no real America! You don't own it" The dying gasps of left-wing political commentary. Spoken like a true Obama acolyte. To him, America isn't a country of shared ideals, laws and customs. It's more like a trust fund for the elites to withdraw from at their leisure, with favors and status dispensed to their chosen pets.
