@MeetYouAtMoes @VitalVegas I think suggesting people tip after sitting at a machine all night triggers the anger people have at the tipping madness in the country since covid.
English

A hundred grand is excessive, and I really have never met a casino worker who would expect that.
I do know of an Australian whale who paid off a cocktail waitress's home after a great night at baccarat, but that's so rare, people talk about it for years.
A few thousand to the people who helped to make your stay fun and cheered for your good fortune is lovely.

Update: Roughly 94% of the replies to this post are along the lines of "wHy wOuLD i TiP a MaCHiNE?" Related: We're all doomed.

Follow-up: informed older couple from Iowa tipped zero for a $10 million jackpot, not even the $4 left on the machine after the jackpot. Cashed it out and took it with them. Do better, humans.

This image, not zoomed in, is from the King Charles/Donald Trump garden party overnight.
Kudos to the photographer for this...it's prime @dailystar content.

English

@MeetYouAtMoes @VitalVegas If I sat there all night and waitresses brought me drinks I’d gladly throw around a couple thousand dollars. A dealer, sure. But to just leave 100 grand for everyone, not going to happen.
English

@WilburFudd @VitalVegas It isn't about that.
It's about sharing your good fortune with the person who...
Oh, forget it.
@VitalVegas is right.
We are doomed. 🤦♀️
English

@MeetYouAtMoes @VitalVegas The cashier who pays you out? What part did his person play in my night of gambling? ZERO.
English

I lived in Vegas and was editor of Casino Player and Strictly Slots.
They just don't get it.
It's about spreading the luck. Maybe it's an "Old Vegas" mentality, but you take care of the cocktail waitress, your host, and the cashier who pays you out, because they were treating you like royalty even when you were playing nickel slots, one nickel at a time.
It's part of the party, and it's awesome.
How sad that people are forgetting that. 🤦♀️

@___Masked @wadestotts One more thing the Roman’s did for us.
English

@wadestotts And who even decided to use Roman numerals for world wars?? Obviously, the white Europeans.
Any historian still clinging to those colonial number systems instead of the inclusive Arabic numerals is clearly a RACIST. It's Eurocentric, imperialistic, patriarchal math violence! 😠
English

"History PhD here--the number of World Wars is actually a *very* controversial topic in academia. Some say there have been two (traditional view), while others say up to sixty-four. Scholars disagree, and that's okay! What's NOT ok are these RACIST attacks on Rep Omar!"

@prinkasusa And he told us to wear a sweater instead of turning the heat up due to high oil prices. The man was weak.

Jimmy Carter was the 39th U.S. President - and never ordered a single aerial bombing campaign against a foreign country. Every modern president before and after him did. Carter chose diplomacy where others chose firepower. His defining moment came at Camp David in 1978 - locking Egyptian and Israeli leaders in 13 days of brutal negotiation, emerging with a peace agreement that ended 30 years of war. His presidency faced the Iran hostage crisis, oil shocks and economic turmoil - crises that would have given any leader justification for military escalation. He held the line anyway. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He died in 2024 at 100 years old. The man who never bombed anyone outlived almost every critic who called him weak.

@javarevisited @Simon_Ingari Or maybe you find out that the DBA has been secretly migrating applications over to an underpowered server without notifying anyone and one day that runaway query brings down 20 apps and no one has a clue why on the day your new app goes live.

@JuForthePeople Let’s just keep doing more of the same shit that has forced tuition up (govt. subsidies) instead of fixing the real problem (govt. subsidies and student loans for all). If it’s free, we’ll get nothing in return.

Cost to attend UW-Madison for in-state students: $30,644/year.
Wisconsin’s minimum wage: $15,080/year.
High tuition costs don’t hurt wealthy Wisconsinites, just those from working class backgrounds.
We need to pass tuition-free college for Wisconsinites.

Man who went viral for remaining in his seat as he ate food during the WH Correspondents' Dinner shooting says he didn't want his new tux on the dirty Hilton floor.
He also said he is from New York, so he hears sirens and activity all the time.
"I’m a New Yorker. We live with sirens and activity happening all the time," Michael Glantz, an agent at Creative Artists Agency, said.
"I wasn’t scared. There are hundreds of Secret Service agents hurtling themselves over tables and chairs, and I wanted to watch."
"First of all, I have a bad back. I couldn’t get on the floor, and if I did get on the floor, they’d have to bring in people to get me off the floor. And No. 2, I’m a hygiene freak. There was no freaking way I was getting in my new tux on the dirty Hilton floor. It was not happening."

@KathyMi61985279 @eggslovato What will people do now that everything is online with no paper? Digital accounts are going to creat nightmares for those left behind.
English

@eggslovato When my father passed away a few yrs ago , any credit card bills that came I just wrote deceased on them and sent back . Never heard nothing from them . Only showed death certificates at his bank.

@REBLA1000 @iky_fwjett That first child thing is a curse. I only wish I could be less responsible and more of a “react on the fly” person. But it’s not in me.
English

@iky_fwjett Middle child here and absolutely yes to this. I think I can explain why. We are the feral ones. We stopped caring a long time ago what people think of us (which is a first child stronghold). We also know we aren’t the cute ones who everyone wants to please (like the youngest) 1/2

after my dad died, we called the funeral home to make arrangements. funeral home called the cemetery to coordinate. the cemetery lady calls my older sister a day later, saying "we can't find a record of your parents owning plots here".
now here's the thing. this cemetery is sold out. it's in the center of the city so it can't expand. no more room, hasn't been for years atp. my parents bought 3 plots right before that happened.
my sister starts panicking. i do what any middle child would do.

@bears9968 @PNWConservative Nice succinct explanation for the condition of a lot of democratic led cities.

@PNWConservative I happily voted and donated to The Leopard Eating Faces Party.
It was supposed to eat only other people's faces. Not mine.
This is still not my fault for reasons. Now I am sad.

The new ‘LAX People Mover’ at the Los Angeles Airport has just begun passenger free testing
This elevated train connects to terminals and parking and was supposed to open 3 years ago. It is now $1 billion dollars over budget. Costing $3.4 billion dollars
It began the passenger-free testing phase around April 21, 2026, and is expected to run for about 60 days. It requires at least 30 consecutive days of uninterrupted operation before moving to volunteer passenger testing
After completing volunteer passenger testing it can get final regulatory approvals

@Mr_Husky1 You’re feeding her cats? Does she like cats? What do they taste like?
English

I had a best friend who recently had a loss in their family. I'm feeding her cats while she is away.
Would it be weird if I tidied up her apartment while I'm there? Not that it's dirty! She had to leave in a rush to catch a flight. So like wash the dirty dishes in the sink, wipe down the counters. That type of thing.
I feel like if I lost a family member, coming back to a tidy home would take so much weight off my shoulders.
