“I would vote blue to save people who voted blue because they don’t understand the question but those who voted red because they don’t understand the question are horrible people” Put it in the louvre, this is pure crystal-distilled tribalism
PoliticalAndy@AndyPolitical

@gfodor it was, you're just a horrible person that didn't pay attention to the question and would've killed a bunch of children

@SCHIZO_FREQ What I don’t understand is why 100% of people wouldn’t pick the red button. Doesn’t seem like an interesting situation if everyone can survive picking the “selfish” option.

People somehow don’t realize that posting about how you’d pick the blue button online is totally different than picking the blue button in real life There is no actual downside to posting online about how you’d press the blue button But if this example were made real life, pressing the blue button means actually risking your life Everybody can pick the happy chungus meme option when there are no consequences, but if you think the results wouldn’t change substantially if people were actually staring down the barrel of the gun you’re just retarded
Peter Hague@peterrhague

Amazing how lots of self appointed game theory experts confidently asserting that blue is the stupid choice. But every time this poll is run blue wins. Not only is the “game theory” answer predicting the wrong outcome, its explanatory power is based on it being able to predict the right answer. So it’s doubly wrong.

It’s also worth noting that red voters have a stronger personal need to be vindicated in this scenario (look at the replies…) and so are probably more motivated to vote in this poll.

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@ChrisHowald @BlackDumpling The fact many reds are citing game theory as their logical basis and not any moral or ethical code indicates most you understand that it is in fact against your belief systems You just don't want to examine what that says about you

Publicly announcing I'm not responsible to keep stupid people alive doesn't confront me much. If you select the Blue button you do solely and exclusively to create a responsibility in others to preserve your life for you when you won't do it for yourself. That's not moral. You force an unnecessarily gutwrenching choice onto others just so you can smugly tell yourself you're their superior because you'd super duper save them if the places were reversed when... NO, you're the only creating risk for others to begin with. You had a chance to save everyone BY PICKING THE RED BUTTON. You elected instead to create a nightmare scenario for others. No one is compelled to press the blue button. No one. It is purely voluntary. Which means if you did you KNOWINGLY created a scenario where other people would have to risk death just to save you. You made the least moral choice possible and if you're willing to create a scenario that risks murdering billions then I have zero problem letting you go.
Unfathomable Studios@NfthmblStudios

publicly announcing you're a redbutton excises you from polite society, you might be useful 3nough to keep around as a side acquaintance, but now nobody can ever assume you'll do anything besides act to maximize your personal stake a stray flea-bitten dog, no more appropriate for an up and coming influencer

@GoodFarmingAdam @MatMvB @gfodor Well first you have india which obviously around 90%+ red. then you have the entire continent of africa. Then you have the arabs who dont even let their woman make most choices for themselves so they arent gonna let others make a choice for them. More to so blues just unwinnable.

@CloudKenshiro @ErnestPlacido @christoaivalis @AbeLopezAuthor most of the countries in the world have an average iq 80iq or below which is already borderline mentally disabled. Picking blue assumes those people all of which live in third world countries actually care about anything beyond themselves in the here and now.

Rational people know intrinsically that everyone should press red, it eliminates any question of anyone dying Irrational (emotionally-driven) people will be compelled to press blue because “it’s the right thing to do” And the more you try to convince them otherwise the more they’ll dig in

@insertjokeh3r3 @CloudKenshiro @christoaivalis @AbeLopezAuthor Then I pick blue to avoid the societal and economic collapse that will come after then. S.Korea and Japan are struggling with slow and gradual decline in birth rate. An immediate change in demographics is sure to collapse society. That can't be fixed in your life time.

@painmute @JustinMacmahan Its the opposite. Idiots are going to press red cause why would they risk it and the intelligent know that fighting against every third world country on the planet who vote red 99% is unlikely to work requiring too many blue votes and will vote red.

It’s crazy how many people believe this 54% vote would hold up in real life. We clearly learned nothing from the last election. Nobody voting red in the poll would defect to the altruistic choice, but many blue voters will defect to red with their life at stake. Blue would lose

@CloudKenshiro @christoaivalis @AbeLopezAuthor You assume they would all vote blue which they wont. Either way its pretty easy to guess which countries are voting which way and in what ratio. to counteract the amount of red pushes would take big countries like the us to vote like 90+% blue which isnt happening.

@PresidentToguro The red button society is explicitly high trust. A society built on guilt tripping everyone to vote blue so you dont die is a hellhole.

@ThePaulineIndex @Aella_Girl No the most moral is to push red and tell others to do that to because one, guilt tripping suicide is evil and two it could cause them to choose blue to save you.

im confused by people saying the right answer is pressing red. the good outcomes are 51% of ppl press blue OR 100% of people press red. the second is obvs way less likely

@robertgraham Correct, red is the incorrect choice made due to an irrational fear response. It's understandable but still incorrect, like running up the stairs instead of out the front door when chased by a monster.

I keep seeing this in my feed. No. If it's a hypothetical question, when your life isn't actually on the line, most people choose "blue". More would choose "red" if their life were actually at stake. Economists experience this all the time, where surveys asking people what they WOULD buy for a price differ strongly from what they actually DO buy when the price changes. If we cut movie ticket prices in half, how many times more often would you go to the movies? What people answer on such a survey differs a lot from how they actually respond to changes in movie ticket prices.

@AdamRackis Blue allows you to vote to save everyone. Red allows you to save everyone who agrees with you. Despite what the world would have you believe most people want everyone to live. Even those who won't agree with them.
