Hi. Over the last 24 hours we had three separate small incidents that affected Codex reliability. Those are three too many and we are taking active steps for them to not reproduce.
I have reset usage limits for Codex across all paid plans. May the tokens flow again.
@0xdippo@WCNegentropy@appealstoheaven@cheesealloverme@thsottiaux If I knew the reset was being brought forward I could have drunk the whole bucket, and then had a whole new lovely bucket of water as well when it was reset. Now I just get it refilled a little and exactly the same amount of water wether my bucket had been nearly empty or not.
I'll try to make this even simpler for you.
If I get a bucket of water every monday - thats for the week. If I take a small sip and its still nearly full. I plan to use the rest of it on Sunday before it's refilled on Monday.
Now with no notice, the water unicorn comes along on Friday and fills it up to the top again and says you now get a bucket of water every Friday.
I have now missed out, I didn't get a chance to use that water, before the bucket gets filled again.
They are filling up the bucket before you get to use it and resetting the day you get it filled.
@michael_waples@ChristianHoegl@rashadeeez@0xdippo@thsottiaux An early reset is a top-off, not a penalty. You can never end up with fewer total tokens in a month by having your budget instantly restored to 100% ahead of schedule.
I can keep going lol
Usually I say to not use ai to write a response and to work things out yourself. You are the exception. Ask it to explain to you like you are 5 years old why resets for many people aren't a good thing. It's starting to get quite funny reading some of these responses. I did contact them a few weeks ago about this very issue. I like many others can manage a weekly limit, maybe you can't fair enough, I won't judge. But if they have a weekly limit and call it that, they shouldn't reset the day.
@pawelk411@michael_waples@thsottiaux Then send an email to the company and tell them that you don’t want the fucking resets anymore.
Let the rest of us enjoy resets because we actively use the product and don’t sit on our usage until the last day of the week.
I get what you’re saying - I’ve been in that exact spot where your own logic feels airtight and you just can’t see the obvious anymore.
Your reasoning would be completely correct **if** the reset had actually moved the billing period (i.e. shortened the current week and started a new one early). But it didn’t. The period is still the same length and ends on the same day.
The **only** difference is that - if we use the example of your illustration - instead of the remaining 80 tokens for the rest of this period, you now have the full 100. Everything else stays exactly the same - including the full new quota when the next period starts.
So the “I saved them for Thursday” strategy only matters if the reset date itself actually changes. Since it didn’t, nobody lost anything. Everyone (including you) actually got a little extra capacity right now.
Reset = win for all of us.
My complaint is they reset the day. Lets keep it really simple - If my weekly limit resets on a Monday, and that week I planned to use all of it on the Sunday, for the sake of the discussion say its 10 million tokens. I can use 10 million tokens on the Sunday, and another 10 million on Monday when the week is reset. You are seriously telling me that if they reset on the Sunday - which gives me 10 million tokens for the next 7 days, that I'm no worse off? If you weren't planning on using them you are no worse off, but see all of the replies , people save up to use later in the week.
@michael_waples@finn_radoy@JonCameron_@thsottiaux Your issue is your communication, bro. You say you are worse off after getting a reset. That is just simply not true. Your complaint is that they reset, not add. That is a different complaint. Instead of telling people to learn math, you should learn language.
Thats entirely the point. They don't roll over. If people decided to use their weekly token limit at the end of the week and the week gets reset before the week is out, inluding the day then they have missed out on the chance to use those tokens. Some people are worse off. It's basic high school or below maths. If you can't comprehend that fine because most people can.
@appealstoheaven@cheesealloverme@michael_waples@0xdippo@thsottiaux You. Aren’t. Paying. For. Tokens. Or. Percentages.
You pay for access to the model with whatever window they give you, and now you people are COMPLAINING because they reset your limits??
YOUR TOKENS DO NOT ROLL OVER. YOU DO NOT GET TO KEEP THEM IF YOU DON’T USE THEM LMAO
Honestly I couldn't care less how much other people got. This is actually about getting 100% of your weekly usage. There are people that actually plan their usage, they might decide to use most of their tokens later in the week. With random resets that also reset the day they miss out. Basic math shouldn't be too hard for a genuis.
Maybe this will explain it better, learn about percentages first. It only benefits those who burn through their tokens at a rate of greater than about 14.2% of their limit per day. Anyone else is wortse off. At the end of the week most people will make sure to use that exctra up. If it resets early and the start day resets they are worse off. It's basic maths.
@rashadeeez@WCNegentropy@0xdippo@thsottiaux Is it so hard to understand ? It's a weekly limit that is reset. If you have decided you will use your tokens near the end of the week and not space them out evenly every day or even burn through them in a couple of days, then you are worse off with a reset.
@ShadowC5@0xdippo@thsottiaux That comparison still does not fix the issue, because the loss happens at the transition. In no situation can you get them back. If they change the reset day you lose if you were going to use the tokens before the reset.
@nichochar@michael_waples@thsottiaux The resets are only positive based on tokens/day ur able to use if u used more than 14% per day so far, if not they actually hurt you
@jonasfroeller@aljosa@thsottiaux Exactly. I'm trying to be efficient as I can. I read everything out there about not wasting tokens and budget my usage.
@michael_waples@0xdippo@thsottiaux The reset is incident compensation, he was restoring used quota, not replacing your current remaining quota. A reset means your consumed usage is refilled, not that your remaining usage is erased. You cannot be worse off because the reset only adds back what was used.
