The Republicans already thought the Democrats were wrong to oppress blacks. Most blacks were Republican until the modern welfare system wooed them to the Democrat Party.

Republicans voted yes at a higher percentage than Democrats on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (about 80% Republican support vs. ~61% Democratic support). A similar pattern held for the Voting Rights Act. Do you believe everything the Democrats tell you?

@jfishernc1 @Brcremer That's because you didn't know that blacks were Republicans after the Civil War and Democrats founded the KKK and passed Jim Crow laws to control them. Republicans finally convinced enough Democrats to pass the Civil and Voting Rights Acts - you can check the vote counts.
