Short answer is tradition is subject to legendary development after 2 generations or so. The scriptures are not, so long as they are faithfully copied (and they are). So, we can have high confidence in the accuracy of scripture, but lower confidence in tradition - but it can add insight.

You acknowledge the Catholic bishops “recognized and codified” the Bible and that begs a few questions: -Who/ what gave them the authority to infallibly do so? Why do you still accept their 27 book decision today? - How do we know they were correct in their decision? What assurance do we have they were correct? Totally in agreement about the apostles- their authority comes directly from Christ and the Holy Spirit not from any later vote. The magisterium (early Catholic bishops) didn't 'create' any authority or invent the books; they recognized and codified what the Christian communities already received as inspired, guided by the same Holy Spirit. 💯 But that's precisely why rejecting the Church's authority leads to an inconsistency…. If those bishops had the God-guided ability to discern the true canon from false writings amid disputes and heresies then why doubt their authority when it comes to preserving apostolic Tradition on the communion of saints & intercession or anything else? Accepting the Bible does mean implicitly trusting the Catholic Church's role in recognizing, codifying and handing it down faithfully throughout the generations (not as a contradiction but as evidence of Christ's promise that the gates of hell wouldn't prevail against His Church Matt 16:18). The same Church that gave us the NT canon continues to guide us today. Peace be with you!!

@GospelAndGlory @JaviatlMay24217 @BillArnoldTeach By accepting the Bible, we accept the authority and credibility of its authors. Which would be the apostles and their direct aids. And God grants that authority. The Magisterium only recognized and codified that authority.

You acknowledge the Authority of the Catholic Church whether you know it or not. You can’t accept the authority of the Bible while simultaneously rejecting the authority that determined what the Bible is. That’s a logical contradiction. Either: The Catholic Church had no authority, and therefore had no authority to definitively identify the New Testament canon. Or: The Catholic Church does have authority, and therefore did have the authority to definitively identify the New Testament canon. If you trust in the Bible, you are implicitly trusting in the authority of those who recognized and preserved its canon, namely the Catholic bishops of the early Church. There’s no way around that. You affirm the Authority of the Catholic bishops every time you read the Bible you are trusting in them to decide what is infallible scripture and what was not and putting it all together for you and preserving it for future generations.

@CatholicDrip___ God canonized the Bible because he inspired it. The Church only codified which books were canon.

We know certain people (canonized Saints) are in heaven because they have at least two confirmed miracles occurred after their death from associated with asking from their intercession. It is called the process of canonization, very detailed investigations into the life and death of the person and miracles from their intercession after their death. Except for the martyrs, they don’t need to have verified miracles… We can definitively say that ALL martyrs go straight to heaven (no time in purgatory, but that’s a completely different debate lol). Hope this helps explain 👇 x.com/i/grok/share/5…

The thief on the cross and baptism: St Thomas Aquinas teaches that Christ’s descent into hell availed as sacramental baptism for the Old Testament saints in limbo who witnessed it. Why? Baptism unites us to the death and resurrection of Christ. But while in limbo, the OT saints actually experienced the death and resurrection of Christ in person and in the present tense. They experienced in reality what we experience sacramentally in baptism. This counted as baptism for those from Adam up to the believing thief on the cross.

@JoshuaTCharles I did miss the part in scripture where anyone outlawed the old sheep skin sheath. And you missed the plot if you say Genesis 38:9-10.

This was certainly one of my more emotional, carnal hangups before becoming Catholic. Many (most?) protestants believe that getting married is a “free ticket” to just about anything you want in the bedroom. The Church says no (and scandalously most Catholics don’t obey either).

I think attachment to contraception is the #1 thing holding Protestants back from becoming Catholic.

The final casualty toll in October 7th War in Gaza according to Hamas's own pension payments: ▶️50K Hamas Terrorist Soldiers ▶️20K Civilians 20K civilian casaulties is "genocide." Also, a 2:1 ratio of combatants to civilians - a ratio never seen in urban combat in all military history - is also now defined as "genocide." If ever there was proof that modern "international law" is just ideology and antisemitism masquerading as "justice" and the "rule of law," this is it.

@HabitualLinest @JackPosobiec Except we know Judas didn’t give a damn about alms to the poor. He really would have like to see the oil be used on his behalf. That’s why he was complaining.

Mary, sister of Martha and the newly resurrected Lazarus, in love and penance, freely pours out the expensive ointment to anoint the feet of Our Lord. Judas Iscariot, the first social justice warrior, complains about this extravagance given to God instead of giving it to the poor. The tragedy of Judas is that he was capable of giving this same love that Mary gave, but chose not to. Remember this the next time someone complains about beautiful cathedrals built for God. #HolyMonday #Passion

If the U.S. has "been at war with Iran for 47 years", why didn't Trump do anything about it in his first term? 🤔 Why didn't the George W. Bush administration, comprised of bloodthirsty neocon warmongers, do anything about it? 🤔 Why had I never heard anyone mention it before 2026, and now it's suddenly the go-to buzzphrase regurgitated reflexively at every available opportunity by what's left of the MAGA cult? 🤔
