All cars need to be electric and autonomous. No noise, pollution, or dangerous driving. A better world is possible.

@MaxKatandJane @PulpLibrarian In fact David was originally from Northern Ireland, before moving to SE England. He studied at Maidstone College of Art and Brian Eno was one of his tutors there.

The Flying Lizards: Money (1979). Stripped back and ironic New Wave art pop, this was an unlikely hit but it really stood out at the time. No synths used on this: the piano has lots of paper and other junk covering the strings to give it that tinny, banjo-like sound.

My electric tariff falls to 5.5p/kWh overnight in a couple of weeks. The daytime rate is 35p though so I figured a 12kw inverter coupled to a 15kwh battery charged at the overnight price can be used during the day. ROI is 3 years... No brainer surely.

@sarah_go_green @OctopusEnergy But why is this extremely low overnight rate only available if you have an EV? I’ve yet to see the justification behind this. Without an EV (but with batteries), the best you can do is the Agile tariff which only rarely goes that low. Average Agile low slot price is around 13p

Here we go. This is an amazing drop in overnight offpeak @OctopusEnergy I refixed my Intelligent Octopus Go last week and the unit rate was 7.5p now from 1st April for the rest of the 12 months it's 3.99p per kWh for 6 hours!!! That's £3 to fully charge my Long Range Tesla!! You can fix still at 9p per kWh that will go down to 5.49p per kWh on 1st April!!! 😍👀🕶️🫡🏆🐙🎶

Yet again, David demonstrates to the l public that he can't read simple facts. The post illustrates how much land is required to generate the same amount of electricity the nation needs. It doesn't discuss time of use, weather, night time, they are all different conversations
David Turver@7Kiwi

But it would generate most of that electricity from May to June. Yet the highest demand is December to February. We would need to cover a lot more of the country in batteries at great expense. You're offering chocolate teapots, not solutions.

@CurrentEnSol @duncsand I agree. What’s the justification for making that rate only accessible if you have an EV? There’s no legislation behind it that I’m aware of.

@duncsand Really do t understand why they do t offer that rate for people who do t have EV’s. Why do they care what the consumed unit is used for. I have lots of customers with solar PV & Batteries that just want a fixed period of overnight cheap rate.

@MartinSLewis Stop buying huge heavy vehicles. The laws of physics dictate that the heavier the car, the more energy needed to accelerate it to a given speed. Perhaps this crisis will start a return to normal sized vehicles?

@MartinSLewis Almost all your fuel is consumed by accelerating the mass of the vehicle. So avoid unnecessary and futile fast acceleration in urban areas which will only get you to the next holdup faster and waste that energy. Basically don’t drive like an idiot.

“Cows have a digestion system that emits methane. We need to change cows and work towards artificial meat.” ~ Bill Gates He fails to mention that methane from cows breaks down into CO2 & water after 10 years. Grass absorbs the CO2 by photosynthesis & the cycle repeats itself.

I’m in my Northern France Chateau this morning. Heading to my Alsace one for the weekend. But back in the Southern Chateau next week, as the weather warms up nicely. But thank you for your concern re my whereabouts. It’s not Dubai!

@cooperx86 @0bNARA Prior to Brexit, Ebbsfleet was well used and that car parking justified. The resulting complexities of border/passport controls meant it, and Ashford International (also previously well used), were no longer viable for Eurostar operations. Brilliant own goal, eh?

@0bNARA And you can’t even get on at Ebbsfleet International for international trains 🤣 They were very over optimistic when they built these car parks that largely sit empty.

THE PLANNED U.S. ATTACK ON IRAN has a hitch: most of the missile-targeting crew are queuing for toilets on the lead vessel, the USS Gerald R Ford. This is not a joke. A set of emails was obtained by NPR, a US public broadcasting group, revealing that toilet wars have broken out on board the most expensive ship the US Navy ever built. The Wall St Journal followed up to confirm the tale today. TLDR Summary: There are too few functioning toilets for 4,600 sailors and the problem is worsening daily—there’s no chance of fixing the system without returning the ship to the US dockyards. . BIG PROBLEMS TO DISCHARGE Problem one: Design planners screwed up by including too few toilets for 4,600 sailors, leading to 45-minute queues on a daily basis. Problem two: Engineers screwed up by installing a fragile vacuum system in which a single valve breakdown on one toilet can stop all the toilets in an entire department functioning—making the queues even longer. Problem three: Some of the temporary repair operations (such as using an acid flush to clear out calcium build-ups) can only be done while the ship is docked: no prospect of that. But with so many toilets out of order, too much pressure is put on the ones still working, so the problem will just spread. . KEY PLAYER IN U.S. ATTACKS And the issues have been gradually mounting for more than a year. “A March 18, 2025 email from the engineering department sent out to all chiefs on the ship said there were 205 [toilet] breakdowns in four days,” the NPR reported. The ship is at the heart of US overseas attack operations, working for months in waters near Venezuela, to support the abduction of the country’s president and the seizing of ships carrying oil to customers, and is now heading the planned regime change operation in Iran. Israel wants a pro-Netanyahu leader installed, as the US has done in many other countries. But how can they attack Iran while staff are queuing for the loo? . WAR OF WORDS ON BOARD One result of all this is war between sailors and on-board sewage staff (called Hull Technicians, or HTs). One sewage engineering head complained that the sailors put all sorts of problematic material down the toilets, including t-shirts: “Our sewage system is being mistreated and destroyed by Sailors on a daily basis. My HT's are currently working 19 hours a day right now trying to keep up with the demand.” Sigh. And the US taxpayer spent US$13 billion on the ship. On the plus side, it would be delightful if the carrier’s desperate lack of functioning toilets caused the attack on Iran was cancelled or postponed.
