I don't remember either of them ever meeting President Trump.

Hwang had official meetings with Trump when he served as South Korea's acting President. Trump already knows him well.
In addition, this year alone, Hwang has been on numerous American talk shows, news interviews and podcasts.

American Conservatives are very familiar with the name Hwang Kyo-ahn, while at the same time asking:
"Who is Kim Min-soo?"
"Who is Jang Dong-hyuk?"
"What is the PPP?"
So let Kim sell his story on Ground Xi to the Korean people that he has some special insight into Washington and Trump.
