@film_waala The CGI looks impressive but the film feels conservative. Brahmฤstra at least tried to reimagine mythology through a contemporary lens but this feels reverential to the point of being static. Instead of asking what it means today, it seems content to recreate what we already know

@kocharpulkit I think Motwane is an exceptional director regardless of genre. My only concern is that Gangulyโ€™s postโ€‘playing controversies and his political connections might lead the film to softโ€‘pedal difficult areas, drift into hagiography, or simply sidestep the more complicated parts

anything Motwane makes I am in, even if its a biopic, because it wont be a regular one if he is directing itโœจ๐Ÿ™Œ man has never repeated a genre and killed it in every genre, and we know what Rajkummar did in Trapped with him

@sportingintel The Last Dance surely isnโ€™t a documentary but a hagiography? Any programmes in which the subject is the producer canโ€™t be billed as a documentary imo.

While the reality is, if you are regrading from a normal 48 nits DCP, it would never have the brightness & color information as a native HDR grade, whether you talk about using an outdated JPEG2000 compression (DCPs use it) as your source, whereas the original native HDR master is done from uncompressed source files. Or if you talk about DCI P3 colorspace being more restricted then DCI ST 2084 HDR colorspace. You can't get accurate HDR color volume from that. Or if you talk about 48 nits not having enough luminance data to accurately bring it up to 300 nits of HDR by Barco DCP. Thing is, many of us only have a standard cinema as reference, & even something which looks slightly better then that, we'll see it as good. even if it's not using the full extensive capabilities of the format. Imagine what if, in the name of high file size DCP we are just being sold gimmicks. Imagine.

This is what I was worried about a few days ago. Now imagine if #ProjectHailMary HDR By Barco Internationally graded/Licensed DCP isnt bought to India by the Exhibitors (for any arbitrary reason), will you get an accurate depiction of the format?
g.balaji@_gbalaji

Unless itโ€™s graded in DolbyVision HDR all formats including DolbyCinema, HDR by Barco & Epiq just upscaling and reformatting SDR content into HDR and the real latitude and Color gamut never be achieved from SDR grading which is happening for 90% films.

@jammypants4 Shoojit Sircar is the most tonally diverse Indian filmmaker. Most have a signature even across genres; Ray, Ratnam, Bhardwaj, Kashyap all leave fingerprints. Sircar doesnโ€™t. Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe, Piku, October, Sardar Udham; none feel like theyโ€™re made by the same person

@iamshreytyagi @kdcloudy Studios have been misogynistic in how they allocate bigโ€‘budget films. Women get far fewer chances to succeed & only one chance to fail. Gyllenhaal talking fluently about IMAX isnโ€™t surprising. Gerwig, Zhao and Sciamma have all used aspect ratios as core storytelling tools

The Bride will be stunning in IMAX GT The Sony Venice 2 has a tall 3:2 sensor which can easily do full height IMAX 1.43 with the right lens. Love that Maggie Gyllenhaal specifically mentioned deets on Instagram.

@santhoo9 I hate them so Iโ€™m not shifting responsibility away from Amazon who ๐Ÿ’ฏ have a duty to stop pirated listings & enforce seller standards. My point was their marketplace model makes people forget theyโ€™re buying from 3rdโ€‘party sellers, so check the seller or support local bookshops

@santhoo9 Amazon undercut local shops by avoiding tax, pushing disposable products & relying on pollutionโ€‘heavy delivery, which erodes communities & harms the environment. It reports losses to avoid tax while treating workers poorly, wiping out competitors who actually pay their share.

Shifting responsibility on piracy from Amazon to buyers is a bad take. A bad bad take.

@chacchachoudhry @GhoshSamyak @PanMacIndia @amazonIN @amazon Amazon is not a seller in India. It is merely the delivery service & shipping portal. Best to think of it as a mall, inside which are 100s of shops. People donโ€™t seem to scrutinise the seller & just blindly trust the tax evading Amazon brand. Buu from local bookshops if possible
