@OrevaZSN They refer to a place without scarcity, a prerequisite for the absence of struggle. All is provided. Commies just take, thy don’t provide. They pride themselves in being godless and it’s true, the separation is wide.

Religious people will describe heaven as a classless, stateless, moneyless society with no private property, no suffering, and everyone’s needs met, then turn around and call communism evil. It will never stop being funny.

@atrupar Oh FRACK OFF Maria! You became a millionaire because of you using the chances you were given. Nothing wrong with that. But not everybody is given chances. And what you are saying is that if you are not given a chance, you are a loser? Frack off! Lemme guess you are a boomer?

This is horrifying and barely getting media coverage. Trump set April 30 as a deadline for the Zambian Govt. They must either accept Trump's new health funding agreement to have access to critical AIDS meds—and thus give the USA expanded access to its precious mineral resources like copper, lithium, and cobalt—or let its citizens die due to lack of vital AIDS medications. Zambia is 98% Christian. Christians will die as a result of Trump's extortion. Notice how MAGA is wholly silent? Barbaric.

@Oroxom1 @Ravenismeee I get it. If you have kids now, it would have to be the only thing in your life for a while. But there is much to be said for having kids when you are younger. My youngest son will graduate college in one year and I will be 54 at the ceremony. I have time and money now.

@RealEmirHan More masculine actors sometimes don’t click until their 30s. Nick Offerman and John Hamm had to mature into the offering they became to the creative community.

Jon Hamm gave himself until his 30th birthday to make it as an actor. He spent his twenties waiting tables, catching the bus because he couldn't afford to fix car, and talking his landlord into delaying the rent. His agency dropped him in 1998. He was 36 when Mad Men premiered.

The Muslim community in the UK is outraged at the way police detained the 45-year-old Muslim immigrant who stabbed two Jewish people in London this morning. According to them, officers used excessive force in a ‘dehumanizing’ and ‘Islamophobic’ manner.

Many of you know, I’ve been partnering with Angel Studios for 3 years. That’s never been a secret. I’ve interviewed much of the founding team, many of the production members for Sound of Freedom and Cabrini, and was a lead promoter for their movie Cabrini. I love their work. I’m currently watching The Chosen. My daughter loves The Tuttle Twins. I frequently cite Orwell here on X, and was really excited when I heard they were doing Animal Farm. I’m kind of a book snob and was interested to see how closely it followed the book. All the clips and trailers I saw were very cute. There were no red flags. However, I was sent an interview this morning with the director saying he purposefully did not respect the integrity of the book. In other words, he Orwelled Orwell. Knowing this now, I cannot in good faith promote this movie to you all like I did Cabrini and Sound of Freedom. I do want to say that Angel Studios does excellent work. I haven’t actually seen them miss until now. They’re human, and good humans at that, who do mean well, but they’re going to miss sometimes. I’ll miss sometimes too. What is important is considering new information when you receive it and maintaining your integrity. I’m not going to discourage anybody from watching this movie, you should draw your own conclusions. I’m still going to watch it anyway because my curiosity is peaked. You don’t need me to think for you or anyone else. I will continue to promote Angel Studio’s Catholic and history work, as I always have, because I do believe in their mission.

@fishstark @BenSasse Having children is in one sense selfish, propagating your genes and all that. The actual act of rearing children, however, is sacrificial and for most people, fulfilling. Government policy may impact on the margins, but having babies isn’t something that requires incentives.

All right @BenSasse, let's make a bet. Let's divide the US in half. I'll let you pick which half. In your half, you ban Candy Crush. In my half we institute 16 weeks of paid parental leave, universal childcare, & a restored child tax credit. Let's see which has more babies.

“We've stopped making babies. We've decided that being distracted by a dopamine hit around Candy Crush might be a good way to spend your time. Not if you're a full human," former Sen. Ben Sasse says in an extended interview. cbsn.ws/4cA1Jrp

18 yo son’s wages vs mine: 18 yo son: graduated high school a month ago. Has a job with a local roofing company in their solar panel install divison. For commercial jobs he'a paid $63 an hour, $95 if it's overtime. For residential jobs he makes $25/hour. About 70% of their jobs are commercial. He's currently on the apprentice waiting list for the local IBEW hall. Me: 40, masters degree, 12 years of teaching experience. $53,000 a year with ~$70K in student debt load. My hour rate is about $25/hour This is one of the many reasons I think of when people talk about why public education is in shambles.

I'd like to believe this, but Philly - 100 miles from Baltimore, basically the same town but bigger - has an awful progressive prosecutor and murders have fallen EVEN FASTER there - over 75% since 2021. This is great. It would be even better if we knew why it was happening.
Austin Justice@AustinJustice

"Blue cities are radical hellscapes that can't fix crime." Counterpoint: Baltimore. Baltimore had 334 murders in 2022. Last year it had 133, the lowest since 1977. The turning point was that voters defenestrated a Soros-backed prosecutor Marilyn Mosby who averaged 333 homicides a year across eight years and declined to use mandatory minimum sentences. (She was later convicted of mortgage fraud, so there's that too.) Her replacement, Ivan Bates, ran on the Democratic ticket with a simple message: repeat violent offenders belong in prison. Maryland law already allowed five years with no parole for convicted felons caught carrying a gun, but Mosby never used it. Bates used it a lot. In just two years, his office sent more than 2K repeat violent offenders to prison, double his predecessor's TOTAL. The city paired that with a precision intervention program that identified the small number of people driving most of the violence, which led to 631 arrests (94% haven't reoffended). Police also seized 2,480 firearms last year alone, including hundreds of ghost guns, while maintaining a 64% homicide clearance rate. When shooters know they'll get caught and actually prosecuted, behavior changes. Sandtown-Winchester, once the most violent neighborhoods in the city, just went a year without a killing! Carjackings (-51%) and robberies (-24%) are also down. Baltimore didn't change demographics, or its culture, its rules, or much of anything else in those years. It simply voted in a new Democratic prosecutor, who decided the city needed to finally put violent criminals in prison.

Americans love banging on about the War of Independence. They’re quieter on the War of 1812. Here’s why. In 1812, America declared war on Britain. The plan was to march into Canada and annex it. Thomas Jefferson said it would be “a mere matter of marching.” It wasn’t. The Canadians sent them packing. Two years later, the British sailed up the Potomac. American forces collapsed at Bladensburg in what’s still called “the Bladensburg Races” because of how fast they ran. President Madison had already fled to Maryland. The British walked into Washington unopposed. They sat down in the White House, ate the dinner Dolley Madison had laid out for forty guests, used the President’s silver, then set fire to the building. Then they burned the Capitol, the Treasury and the Navy Yard. A freak thunderstorm put the fires out the next day. The British left when they were ready. It’s still the only time a foreign army has captured the US capital. You can see why it doesn’t come up much.
