Look ma new Codex Updates! 0.119.0 and 0.120.0 are here. And with it, a HUGE number of quality of life updates and bug fixes! > Hooks now render in a dedicated live area above the composer. They only persist when they have output, so your terminal stays clean. If you're running PreToolUse or PostToolUse hooks, this is a huge readability win. > Hooks are now available again on Windows > CTRL+O copies the last agent output. Small but clutch when you're pulling a code block into another file or chat. > New statusline option: context usage as a graphical bar instead of a percentage. Easier to glance at mid-session when you're trying to gauge how much runway you have left. > Zellij support is here with no scrollback bugs. If you've been stuck on tmux just because Codex was broken in Zellij, you're free now (shout out @fcoury) > Memory extensions just landed. The consolidation agent can now discover plugin folders under memories_extensions/ and read their instructions.md to learn how to interpret new memory sources. Drop a folder in, give it guidance, and the agent picks it up automatically during summarization. No core code changes needed. This is the first real extension point for Codex's memory system, and it opens the door for third-party memory plugins. > Did you know, you can /rename a thread? But what's really cool about that is, after you rename it, you can resume it with the same name, no more UUIDs. codex resume mynewapp or directly from the TUI: /resume mynewapp > Multi agents v2 got an update to tool descriptions More reliable multi agent environments and inter agent communication > You can now enable TUI notifications whether Codex is in focus or not. Modify this in your config: [tui] notification_condition = "always" > MAJOR overhaul to Codex MCP functionality: 1. Codex Tool Search now works with custom MCP servers, so tools can be searched and deferred instead of all being exposed up front. 2. Custom MCP servers can now trigger elicitations, meaning they can stop and ask for user approval or input mid-flow. 3. MCP tool results now preserve richer metadata, which improves app/UI handoff behavior. 4. Codex can now read MCP resources directly, letting apps return resource URIs that the client can actually open. 5. File params for Codex Apps are smoother: local file paths can be uploaded and remapped automatically. 6. Plugin cache refresh and fallback sync behavior are more reliable, especially for custom and curated plugins. > Composer and chat behavior smoother overall, resize bugs remain though. > Realtime v2 got several significant improvements as well. > You're still reading? What a legend. 🫶 npm i -g @openai/codex to update

@DeekeTweak Huge merger causes some confusion. How is this different than any other huge merger?

Absolutely must-read/must-watch interview with former Bethesda exec Pete Hines. The $7.5bn Microsoft buyout caused friction behind the scenes due to mixed messaging on exclusivity. Hines is a very straightforward kind of guy, so this was an issue. vimeo.com/1180855735/5cf…

@iamrobtv If you want 3 games in 1 you should be prepared to pay the price for 3 games. That's all I'll say.

@LeeFowlerCU Did you know that it's been 25 years since Halo 1 released and the bare minimum for what content an FPS game should have available at launch has changed?

Halo Infinite as it stands is a great Halo game and had it launched that way we would be having much different conversations about Halo rn It's so frustrating that Xbox released and then left the game in Beta for pretty much 2 years and then have the audacity to act as if the game's failures were due to disinterest in the franchise. No you just released a mediocre product initially and people moved on. By the time the game was even a semblance of a complete product it was too late
Destin@DestinLegarie

Halo Infinite was great imo. But if that still wasn't "enough" to warrant story follow ups and a continuation for Infinite vs. a Halo 1 remake I'm worried about the future of the franchise. I have ~456 hours in Infinite. I love the game. I hope Halo Studios can figure it out.

@CptDuDuBronze @iamrobtv You sound like an expert programmer. Maybe they should just hire you and then you too can be underpaid for your efforts!

One that works at launch and doesn't take 4-6 years to fix primary features like finding, connecting, and staying connected to matches with STABILITY. A complete campaign is not a tech demo someone spent too long on. 🙄 each patch shouldnt break something else. IE we need a team that is capable of delivering proper working code is the only way we get there. I mean were still playing the same gametype and maps 4+ time in a row 4 years deep? That's a BASIC programming problem that any low-level engineer should be able to figure out. 🤔 They have issues fixing programming 101 level problems. This proves incompetence. Thus I will no longer give them money as they dont deserve it.

@LeeFowlerCU @iamrobtv A complete halo game is one that launches with campaign co-op, forge, 15+ multiplayer maps, custom browser, and a progression system that is engaging. Something all the original games had.

@LeeFowlerCU @iamrobtv Release with forge and more than 5 social modes along with ranked arena, slayer, snipers and doubles. It isn’t rocket science, they released with ranked arena, quick play and bot bootcamp…and btb was a month later, broken, taken out for 2 weeks then came back

@iamrobtv In fact, to this day plenty of games launch without a UGC system and people don't consider them incomplete!

@iamrobtv Went through this with Halo 5 too. It's funny how 5 and Infinite have so many parallels. I don't understand how they release TWO games missing so many features and then wonder why interest in the IP has declined.

This year, Microsoft suddenly decided to go hard on prioritizing user feedback on Windows 11 and Xbox. This comes after a years of pretty visible neglect. Why now? I don't think Microsoft randomly chose to "be nice" without a big reason ... windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind… 📉

Can't help but feel like they realised AI / Sam Altman is a gigantic scam with a really hard cap on its real world applications vs. cost. Strong pivot to bread and butter, which were suffering hard under the gigantic OpenAI disaster.
Brad Sams@bdsams

In the past 6 weeks we have seen a rather strong shift for both Xbox and Windows implementing requested features after years of ignoring them. This is great but…what changed for both of this massive orgs to suddenly start listening?
