A very dangerous new nightmare we are living in Gaza City, and no one in the world is paying attention to it. Days ago, the Israeli army installed huge military cranes, each about 30 meters tall, on the eastern areas it controls. These cranes are equipped with machine guns and cameras, and they fire randomly and almost continuously at tents, streets, and exposed neighborhoods. Gaza City is extremely narrow, only 10 kilometers wide. A single crane at that height is enough to expose the entire city from east to west. Every street, every square, every tent, every house has become completely exposed. There is no place to hide, and not a single moment of safety. In just the past two days, three people were killed by fire from these cranes. One of them was sitting quietly with his father in a small café, trying to breathe for a few minutes. Hours later, a 5year old girl was killed while playing near her home. These cranes have turned the entire city into an open field. The latest military technologies are directed at civilians. We have become an open testing ground for their new weapons. The horror is not just in the sound… it is the constant feeling of being an exposed target at all times, where even children cannot run in the street without fear.

Pleasure to be at UNISON conference. To bring our communities together - we need to end Rip off Britain. And that starts with tackling extreme wealth.

Thanks to everyone who has emailed or messaged me about Lush and other organisations using imagery associated with mastectomy scars in campaigns and promotional material. It's clear the Chelmsford display is not an isolated example. Nor, it seems, is Chelmsford City Council the only local authority promoting such imagery for Pride Month. I've also heard from a number of people who either work for Lush or know people who do. If you've come across similar examples, I'd be interested to see them. Anything you send will be treated in confidence unless agreed otherwise. janet@janetmurray.co.uk

The Lady Chief Justice said proscription of Palestine Action “struck a fair balance” and that PA is not a peaceful civil disobedience group like the Suffragettes

@owenjonesjourno @rosederbyshire I’m being told to grow up by the one man child who continues to preach student politics. Let’s face it, everything you do is aimed at outrage in a bid to make money - get a real job.

@ZackPolanski Do you support the Palestine Action group?

Today a group of Muslims prayed next to the Ministry of Defence, facing the Iraq and Afghanistan memorial. As I have said before, choosing to pray in this way in public is a political act. It is a social statement and, yes, it is an act of domination. Anybody who understands Islamism understands that the domination of public spaces is part of the modus operandi. It is done so Islamists can show who is in charge - and to show other Muslims and the wider public that the authorities will bend to their will. There is quite obviously no need to pray here. The decision to do so is symbolic and pointed. It is not welcome. We have freedom of religion in this country, which is why there are mosques. But we are not a Muslim country and this is not welcome. It should be stopped.

@owenjonesjourno I’m more disturbed that you spent the night thinking about me. The antisemitism I’ve woken to from the extreme left over night is utterly unhinged, shameful and disturbing.
