The problem is that you’re quoting isolated verses while ignoring the rest of Scripture. If salvation can be lost, why does Jesus say in John 10:28, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish”? James 2 doesn’t deny faith alone, it denies a dead faith that is alone. In Romans 3:28 Paul says we are “justified by faith apart from works”. Hebrews 5:9 doesn’t teach salvation by obedience. It teaches that those who are saved are those who obey Christ. Obedience is the fruit of salvation, not the cause of it. Scripture teaches we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Good works are the evidence of salvation, not the basis of it.

The Bible is explicitly clear on these things even though they are controversial.
1. You can lose your salvation. (Hebrews 6:4-6)
2. Faith alone is unbiblical. (James 2:24)
3. Salvation is for those that obey (Hebrews 5:9)
Saying otherwise is denying God’s word.

Protestants are making a nothingburger out of a minimal fee many Greek Churches have because baptisms are usually large celebrations, not empty “symbols.” This covers baptismal robe, candles, perhaps icons, and the celebration feast after. Many churches simply ask for a donation. This is nothing, btw, compared to most fundie churches which demand 10% tithe whereas most orthodox churches leave it all voluntary. This is just more ignorant moral gotchas because they have no intellectual arguments for their sects.
