@nerd_cookies @HMBohemond He's not a villain, he's a warning. A type of warning not many would ever consider given the very traits a man like Paul inhabits. It by no means, changes him from being a hero, but a cautionary tale for heroes and those that embolden them.

Frank Herbert was pretty consistent in stating his intention with Paul from the start. What he said about Paul aligns totally with how he wrote him in the books. He explicitly states several times from the first novel to interviews that Paul is a HERO. He's written intentionally so that the reader would like him and root for him. The warning is that the more power is consolidated around any one person, no matter the moral integrity of the person, many will be negatively impacted. Saying "Paul is the villain" is a gross misunderstanding and oversimplification of the character as written in the books. The claim that Herbert later only classified him as a villain is not accurate.

What Herbert and Villeneuve intended with their work is irrelevant because that's not what their work said. Authorial intent has limits when the text is finally presented. Don't write a hero then say, "Actually he's the villain." It doesn't work that way.

@Brettdasovic There's a way to do it right, but not enough talent in Hollywood to actually do it.

@RMBee Because when someone who doesn’t know how to run a studio offers to buy your studio, you can’t tell the buyer to take off, because the stock holders may want lots of money now, instead of way more money a short time later. Apparently that is called good business. 🤷‍♂️

I've watched the DUNE Part 3 trailer 10 times...and I can't help but think...WARNER BROTHERS make it possible for Denis Villeneuve to make the most PEAK verisimilitude Science Fiction Trilogy ever committed to film, and PARAMOUNT is gonna' come along and fuck this studio UP? WHY

X-men: First Class is easily the best X-men movie ever made. The greatest cinematic crime was taking the franchise away from Matthew Vaughn and giving it back to Brian Singer.

Incorrect. Making Anakin a typical man who becomes a Jedi and falls to the dark side shows how dangerous the dark side is, and the level of discipline any Jedi must exercise to resist it. When you alter Anakin to be a “chosen one” you diminish the dangers of evil on its own, and the power of being good in order to save anyone from darkness. Because now it is no longer about good or evil, but which side has control of the most powerful being in the galaxy. The importance of Star Wars is about the path one takes in life and the consequences of those actions. The moment one inflates a characters importance is the moment you deflate the premise and theme of your story.

@retneysholocron What would be the point from a larger than life story perspective. George says he is chosen one taking from legend/religious connotation to imply his importance. Just some guy now? Nope. It diminishes the character’s significance. It can be both saving his son and being chosen.

My hot take: The Chosen One prophecy was a dumb addition to the saga. Anakin's story is better without it, when he is just a father who saves his son out of selflessness and it has nothing to do with fulfilling a prophecy or restoring balance to the Force.
