More on Corsica since I didn’t mention much about it in the last video. Don’t hate me for not knowing this previously my historical knowledge is better Pre-Renaissance. (If I have any knowledge at all! Right?)

@bschaeffer12 If we’re being technical it’s a French pronunciation and it’s more like eh-tee-awn, but with such light emphasis on the t an n sounds it ends up sounding more like eh-chon

@breauxbot @AutismCapital You only pay taxes on income above the exemption. If you make 1,001,000 then you pay $100 in state income tax

@AutismCapital So if you make a 1,001,000 you will have to pay 100,000 in STATE taxes alone PLUS federal taxes. That’s ridiculous!

🚨BREAKING: Washington State passes their first ever income tax. Incomes over $1M/year will be taxed at 9.9%. Married couples share A SINGLE $1M exemption, so if combined incomes are more than $1M, you're getting taxed. This will obviously eventually extend beyond millionaires. What comes for others, will eventually come for you! RIP Washington state!

@BudElliott3 Saban advised him to take the LSU job but where your statement is incorrect is that he did not advise him leave. Kiffin wanted to stay but didn’t want to pass up a once in a lifetime chance and OLE MISS wouldn’t let him coach. if you are going to post a statement get it right

Nick Saban was so offended by guys trying to talk contract extensions before the playoff that he … advised Lane Kiffin to quit on his team embarking on a title run to take the LSU job. It’s always been a double standard with him. 🎙️

@hellojohnpaul @AbelBordes @NashvilleLuis @Legal_Fil I never said she sounds neutral. I said she sounds bad because she’s trying to sound neutral. There are other videos online of her speaking Spanish and it’s clear that although she’s not great at it, she’s not as bad as she seems in the Mamdani ad either

If she spoke with a Costa Rican accent, often considered neutral, I would agree with you. But she would not sound neutral in any Spanish-speaking country or Spanish prominent American city in 2025. We would have to redefine what “neutral” means, because it sticks out more than any accent one could have chosen. “Textbook” would just mean clean, clearly pronounced words and perhaps more formal speech. You might hear this from Spanish-speaking professors who care about the language. Her speech is not textbook. It’s just broken Spanish with an American accent. And that’s fine.

@hellojohnpaul @AbelBordes @NashvilleLuis @Legal_Fil I’m not by any means criticizing Rubio, just analyzing his speech here. He aspirates his S’s and swaps some R’s for L’s—both of which are typical traits of Cuban/Caribbean dialects. He sounds natural bc he’s speaking naturally, AOC sounded off bc she was trying to sound neutral

@_indesinenter @_solpost_ I think it’s important to educate people on the beauty of Catalunya so the original post could have been improved by de-emphasizing Spain. But that can be done without insults that in the end reflect much more poorly on the person making them than the person receiving them

@devindrome @_solpost_ Should've been better enough writing only "Barcelona". No need to tell the world and us, the catalans, we still have to suffer from this degraded Spanish colonization. Is an insult. Respect!

@NashvilleLuis @Legal_Fil Yeah these are entirely different approaches. This is very natural but as you said, thickly accented, from Rubio. AOC, on the other hand, attempted a very rigid, textbook approach that overemphasized clarity. It sounded really unnatural but it doesn’t mean she can’t speak Spanish

@Legal_Fil Considering he’s from Miami & that English is his second language, his Cuban accented Spanish (sometimes kinda hard to understand) is actually real good.

@_solpost_ I acknowledge the existence of a Catalan nation and am mildly sympathetic to its independence but claiming that Barcelona isn’t in Spain is a flat denial of reality and history

@_solpost_ Belgium and Ireland are both sovereign and independent nation states. No one has ever claimed that Scotland is England (It’s Great Britain). That’s equivalent to claiming that Catalunya is Castile. Catalonia has been part of Spain for Spain’s entire existence

@devindrome @aretheygay Not sure if middle class but Brown gave me a 95% paid ride in 2005. Some of it was conditional on performance, some of it was work study but 80% was just paid for no stipulations. Parents made ~40k/year combined.

Faux populist movies are ultimately fueled by intra elite resentment. This line is an instant tell that the writers are upper middle class. Ivy League schools are usually extremely generous with their financial aid. Low income students at Brown basically get auto full rides.

@AlexKontorovich Honor code only works if everyone else follows it. Once you get people from cultures that allow cheating to get ahead it’s dead in the water and following it makes you the clown in the room

Very sad indeed. When I moved from Princeton to Columbia for grad school, I was *shocked* when I was told that I actually had to proctor my calc exams, and just not trust their "honor code". At Princeton, the honor code genuinely meant something. In the first week of freshman year, we had to write an essay explaining in detail what the consequences of cheating were, why it didn't serve our long term interests, and how even if we weren't the ones cheating, if we knew that others were and didn't report it, we would be just as guilty. (I remember vividly, because my first attempt at such an essay was rejected as insufficiently detailed! I had to write a much longer version.) As a result, people really didn't cheat (as far as I knew; every year there was ~1 student kicked out of school for cheating). It was something really special, it turned out; that's not how it works elsewhere. Sad to see further deterioration of the culture at Princeton.
Steve McGuire@sfmcguire79

Exams at Princeton have been unproctored under an Honor Code since 1893. “Students pledge both to refrain from infractions of academic dishonesty and to report any breaches of the Constitution they witness.” But AI has led to an increase in academic dishonesty cases, so:
