@Charing_Steve Thank you … I often wondered, but have not heard that before. On the Central we had 55, 66, 77, 88 and 99. Oh, and 31 on the Eridge line from TWW - not sure how that got in!

3/. All the unused codes of 11s etc that EMUs didn’t. SE rigidly kept to this. HGS - CX became 22, HGS - Cs was 33, routes over marsh became 44, 66, 77 etc. 22 became the most recognised as the majority went to CX. (from the Steve Beck memory bank or railway trivia).

@HastingsDiesels DEMU headcodes. Here’s the thread I promised. When the SR adopted numeric headcodes on their EMUs (SUBs, BILs etc i.e. the 1936 stock) the units did not have roller blinds. They had stencils in a box in the cab. There were 10 stencils 0 to 9 only. 1/

@ovsbulleid As a youngster it was my nearest spotting location to cycle to in the early 60s. E50xx on the Arrow and continental ferry vans; EPBs, HAPs, CEP/BEP/MLVs, E60xx, D65xx, and those noisy Hastings diesels! Steam had finished though.

Class 375 at Shoreham Lane Bridge, Sevenoaks. 📷 Pentax ME-super 35mm lens 🎞️ Agfacolor 200 This is the site of the Sevenoaks accident in August 1927. The “River” class 2-6-4T loco derailed at speed and hit the bridge. The locos were all withdrawn and rebuilt as tender locos.

@gceccles @Captain_Deltic @stuartthomas @LNER I remember him as Divisionsl Manager SR Central Division in the early 70s. While working in the AMO at Vic I was once deputed to meet him off a train and carry his bag to a taxi.

@stuartthomas @Captain_Deltic @LNER Frank Patterson was General Manager of the North Eastern Region. He would visit the Regional Control each morning. He would wish the DCC Good morning and then ask the Control Clerk (the office junior) how well the 1000’s were running. Unthinkable not to have the answer.

@Tram2554 @ovsbulleid No Woolies now; no banks; all turkish barbers, coffee shops and charity shops. And the famous High Street bookshop of course; that's still here. If in town, pop into @engine_tap for some splendid ales.

XF1 passes Woolies in East Grinstead. The XF were a small fleet of 8 Fleetlines with Park Royal bodies bought by LT in 1965 to evaluate alongside 50 Atlanteans (XA). XF1 and XF3 are preserved. 📷 me 1977

@Charing_Steve @stephen37292ML Well, there were three prototype units; this one and two 4-cars. I had a return trip CX to Dartford and back while they were briefly on the SED

@ovsbulleid @JGourd7 It's somewhat like a QM though the front upper look is more like the Brighton trolleybuses, some of which ended up in Bournemouth. No.2 has a similar look to the M&D Bristol lowbridge DL buses

@jsamways @JGourd7 Thanks. I thought no. 3 was Bournemouth livery, but couldn’t reconcile that with the “Queen Mary” look

@JGourd7 @ovsbulleid 1. Post war RTL with roof box. (Pre-war RTs had curved cab windows at the bottom). 2. Looks lowbridge. 3. Bournemouth Corp'n 1950 Leyland PD2. 4. Looks like the 8-foot RTW version. 5. Unusual for a Leyland to have ECW body! 6. LD6B Lodekka, originally with Hants & Dorset.

@ovsbulleid L - R: 1. Pre-War AEC Regent III. (Roof-box dates it to before the War) 2. Can't see. 3. Queen Mary PD3. 4. Leyland Post-War RT 5. Leyland PD2 Lowbridge. 6. Bristol Lodekka... Possibly.

@YesterdaysBrit1 That’s probably Bromley High Street. The 94 ran from Grove Park to Petts Wood station in those days (50s-60s)

@Rob99218119 In the 60s most of the older ‘pre-war’ RTs, distinguished by the curved windows below the cab, had become driver training vehicles

Who would have thought that in 2026 we would still be using a Tyer token machines on single lines. A token stamped with the route of line is handed to the driver giving him authority to enter the single line when signalled. Token returned into the token machine at the other end.

@BMLBod @MonsieurPiddly They are if they have all the pasted-in amendments, amendments to amendments, etc. etc. A work of art to stick them in the right place so you could still read the unchanged bits!
