Predator Badlands is the first movie in a long time that I actually enjoyed. Thanks to @DannyTRS + team for reminding me why I loved kino and for not producing more slop. The walking feet were hilarious and deserved the screentime

@mannyn83 > Does Jolt want to create the program from it's own shader source? CreateComputeShader(const char *inName, ...) passes in a name. Where you get the shader from is up to you. The default DX12 implementation uses mShaderLoader to load hlsl, Vulkan/Metal load compiled shaders.

Thanks, one thing I noticed is the Map/Unmap which is not so great for WebGPU. It might be better to do a ReadAsync and WriteAsync that passes a lambda, the buffer is locked for the duration of the callback. Does Jolt want to create the program from it's own shader source? If so it would be good to allow this to be handled externally, eg Jolt requests the creation of a named shader and we can construct internally as we would store in our own packages where the FS is entirely virtual.

@mannyn83 I did attempt to make that abstraction in a way that is hopefully easily integrated (with DX12, Vulkan and Metal implementations): github.com/jrouwe/JoltPhy…. Let me know what you think of it.

@rfleury Game engines are some of the most hardcore tech out there. From networking to virtual machines, mem management and virtual filesystems: game engines cover all bases.

@theo “Didn’t want to learn a game engine” is an incredibly strange inversion of the truth, which is that writing a game from scratch (in any language) is extremely difficult & something almost all programmers can’t do, and thus requires much more learning than using a prebuilt engine

@FutureJurvetson Thanks for sharing the link to the piece on NeXT. It's one of his most fascinating periods. The OS was phenomenal and rightfully lives on

Yes…. Back when I was a student, I had Steve Jobs over for a fireside chat in my home. When I asked my childhood hero if he would sign my Apple Extended keyboard, he looked a little surprised to see Woz’s signature already there, and then he exclaimed: “This keyboard represents everything about Apple that I hate. It’s a battleship. Why does it have all these keys? Do you use this F1 key? No.” And with his car keys he pried it right off.   Alan Deutschman reported the moment in his book, The Second Coming of Steve Jobs, culminating in Jobs' comment: “I’m changing the world, one keyboard at a time.” He also offered me an interview at NeXT that night, and I took it: flic.kr/p/atvnG7

I’m guessing that’s you, @FutureJurvetson “a young MBA candidate named Steve Jurvetson, asked the legendary figure to autograph his Macintosh keyboard” You remember it? Did you know it was in the Deutschman bio?
