@pfbuzz @DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops And the trade that got okc their current team may not happen in the future cuz of this system since it weakens the value of future 1sts. You trade the star for the firsts with the hope of the team bottoming out in the future. But now bottoming out can mean the 12th pick

Hard to say “but the bad teams will stay bad” with NBA’s proposed lottery reform. The Wizards haven’t hit 50 wins in a season since 1979. I’m guessing they’ve had plenty of chances to get good in that stretch lol

@dash_r_media @AmicoHoops Lol no it won’t. It’ll make it harder to stop sucking on purpose. Giannis drafted at 15 Kawhi at 15. Learn to scout and quit hoping you luck into a Wemby. That’s not a plan. And it’s why the Wizards have basically sucked for 45 years.

@DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops That’s true and I agree w/ your original point. On one hand, yes, Spurs got Wemby (and Duncan) No. 1. So lottery DOES matter. Still, Bucks got Giannis at 15, Warriors got Steph at 7 (Draymond 2nd rd, Klay at what, 11?) I know some of that’s dumb luck, but also good front office

@pfbuzz @AmicoHoops That’s the only problem I see really, they do hurt them more than usual. The draft is now a less viable way to acquire or accumulate talent. Teams that are disadvantaged in other methods are now more disadvantaged overall as their best route has taken a hit.

@DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops No I agree about Memphis, etc. I’m just saying odds have ALWAYS been stacked against NBA’s small markets. And they sadly always will be. These lottery changes, to me, hurt them no more than usual. Because league office (or more so, sponsors) have always rooted against them.

@pfbuzz @AmicoHoops I think it’s not a bad plan. Net positive almost certainly. Small market fans that aren’t set up already should be concerned. If I’m a Memphis fan I don’t care what the league wants

@DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops Well, it didn’t actually get harder for them today since this isnt voted on yet. But I get ur point. I just think well-run teams, regardless of market, can succeed. Is it harder for small markets? Of course. Always has been. You think NBA has ever wanted Memphis in Finals? lol

@pfbuzz @AmicoHoops That’s an entirely different argument. I don’t disagree. We are talking outcomes and it got harder for small markets today. Again, not debatable.

@DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops There are things that can’t be explained to you in a tweet. OKC & San Antonio perhaps best two run organizations in NBA right now. And perhaps the two best teams. Losing should not be rewarded. Ever. Tough shit if you don’t know how to win - regardless of market.

@pfbuzz @AmicoHoops It’s simple math. It does make talent acquisition harder for small markets. This is not debatable.

@DonMegaBets @AmicoHoops OKC won the title and their best player came in a trade. It’s not harder for small markets. It’s harder for poorly run franchises,

@AmicoHoops Make it harder for all small markets cuz a few of them are bad. Fantastic logic there Sam.

Another great anecdote: Dawkins created what they call “decimal meetings” where every 10 games a player would meet privately in a room with 10 to 12 staffers: at least one each from mental health, physical fitness, culinary, nutrition, health and wellness, coaching, skill development, management, etc. “The first time is always a shock,” Winger says. “They’re ‘Oh shit, am I in trouble?’… But after that, they realize this is not an undressing. This is a buildup meeting.”
Wizards Film Room@KevinFolliNBA

Great story in the @SBJ on the Wizards front office and including how Winger and Dawkins convinced Ted it was time to rebuild and their process in trying to make the organization “first class.” A lot of great quotes in here including: Michael Winger: “I said, ‘Ted, you’ve got to understand: the fans are not going to be happy about this, we’re going to lose a lot of money, it’s going to have an effect on ratings.” “He’s like, ‘Yeah, I get it, but at the end of the day, I want to build this thing the right way, and I trust you to do it.’ “And so he’s let me tear down the team.” sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2026/…

Again, there is nobody better on the nexus of legal and sports than McCann. Really interesting stuff, which we cited on the next Sports Media Podcast (w. @paulsen_smw, @Armand_Broady and @derekfutterman) coming out tomorrow.

@McCannSportsLaw @evand23mc Michael, I think you’re failing to realize who actually did something truly immoral and creepy here. Think Russini’s husband is angrier at her, or the guy who “broke the law.” Come on man lol

@evand23mc Totally agree. It's creepy and inappropriate, in my view. The guy who allegedly took the photos also took shots of them in different locations on the property—even creepier.
