Every major economic opportunity in Pakistan was turned into a rent-seeking scheme for the elite. 1. Pakistan borrows billions. Instead of building exports, industry, and skilled human capital, the money disappears into mega-projects loaded with commissions. Result: Every few years, Pakistan returns to the IMF with a begging bowl — while the elite parks wealth offshore. 2. Pakistan’s industry needed cheap electricity to compete globally. Instead, the system rewarded IPPs and guaranteed capacity payments for a connected few. Result: IPP owners got richer. Industry got crushed under expensive power. Exports stagnated. 3. Farmers needed affordable fertiliser. Gas subsidies were supposed to support agriculture. Instead, subsidies became a pipeline for elite profits. Result: Fertiliser cartels thrived. Agricultural productivity and exports barely moved. 4. Pakistan could have become a regional trade corridor linking Afghanistan and Central Asia. Instead, transit trade became a smuggling and money-laundering racket. Result: Dollar flight, black markets, trade deficits, and a stagnant economy. 5. Pakistan needed world-class education and employable skills. Instead, degree factories multiplied while public universities decayed. Result: Over 75,000 IT graduates every year — fewer than 5,000 employable. The tragedy of Pakistan is not lack of opportunity. It is that every opportunity became a business model for extraction instead of national growth. We now have another opportunity with Pakistan's new found place at the center of world diplomacy and importance -- let's not squander this!

The four-day conflict between India and Pakistan has reinforced a reality that many international observers quietly acknowledge: Pakistan demonstrated credible military capability, strategic restraint, and diplomatic composure under pressure. Militarily, Pakistan’s response established deterrence credibility; diplomatically, India struggled to convince the international community of its narrative despite deploying high-profile parliamentary delegations and aggressive messaging campaigns. Pakistan’s insistence on transparency proved politically and diplomatically effective. By calling for a neutral and independent inquiry into the Pahalgam massacre, Islamabad projected confidence and responsibility. India’s rejection of that proposal weakened its moral and diplomatic position. Instead of allowing an impartial investigation, New Delhi appeared determined to act as judge, jury, and executioner simultaneously—an approach that raised concerns internationally about escalation, due process, and political motivations. Yet the broader strategic environment remains deeply troubling. South Asia once again finds itself trapped in a dangerous condition of “no war, no peace.” The ceasefire may have silenced the guns temporarily, but it has not addressed the structural drivers of hostility. The ideological orientation of the Hindutva dispensation continues to rely heavily on anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan rhetoric for domestic political mobilisation. In this atmosphere, Pakistan becomes a convenient external adversary, particularly during moments of political stress inside India. Ironically, the recent confrontation has also exposed the vulnerabilities of the Hindutva narrative. The expectation of quick coercive success did not materialise. Instead, the crisis highlighted the risks of hyper-nationalism, media-driven militarism, and the political exploitation of conflict. Nevertheless, rather than encouraging introspection, influential voices in India appear increasingly engaged in fuelling anti-Pakistan hysteria. Such rhetoric carries serious risks: public passions can quickly corner political leadership into adopting escalatory policies that neither side may fully control. This is precisely why the current phase is so dangerous. The space for moderation, dialogue, and sanity is shrinking. Voices advocating restraint are often branded as weak or unpatriotic. In such an emotionally charged environment, even a minor incident could trigger another cycle of escalation between two nuclear-armed neighbours. Under these circumstances, Pakistan’s foremost requirement is vigilance coupled with strategic maturity. Military preparedness remains essential, but so does diplomatic engagement, narrative discipline, and internal cohesion. Pakistan must continue projecting itself as a responsible regional actor committed to stability, transparency, and deterrence—not provocation. The challenge ahead is not merely military; it is political, psychological, and ideological. Sustained vigilance, calibrated diplomacy, and national unity will therefore remain Pakistan’s most effective instruments in navigating an increasingly volatile regional landscape.

@SouthAsiaIndex Nominal GDP doesn't tell the full story. Compare wealth inequality, debt burden, and poverty. 800M Indians fall into vulnerable categories eligible for subsidized food. That's 3x our population! The better question is how Pakistan can reach $4T with a stronger HDI and equality.

India and Pakistan started the journey at the same footing in August, 1947. Now, after almost 80 years, India is a $4 trillion economy, while Pakistan is barely escaping the default. What is one good thing that India did for its economy that Pakistan could not do ? Share your thoughts.

Pakistan's biggest enemy is their Geography, they can get J-35, but even that has to take off and land back. IAF already have weapons which can reach every corner of Pakistan even when fired from the Indian Air Space. For the near future the kind of SEAD capability we are working upon is itself game changer with missiles reaching 500km of range. People see air power as air to air power and forget that air power is most used for air to surface, IAF has heavily invested on the stand off weapons. We have almost every type, Subsonic, supersonic, GPS denied, TV guided, expensive, cheap etc. Op Sindoor pounding before Bunyan al Marsoos paralysed PAF's air action that's why they ran for the ceasefire. In future the pounding will become more brutal. So, J-35 will not make much difference for the PAF, air to air battle, yes but for the outcome, no!

The Myth of Pakistan’s Nuclear Immunity: One year after India’s May 7–10, 2025, “Operation Sindoor,” the brief military campaign’s most enduring legacy may be the dismantling of the long-held belief that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal prevented India from launching major conventional strikes. By involving more than 120 warplanes in a massive beyond-visual-range (BVR) engagement and deploying long-range precision weapons such as air-launched BrahMos cruise missiles, India demonstrated it could impose punitive costs without crossing the nuclear red line. Through a calibrated operation lasting just over three days, India pierced the perceived immunity conferred by Pakistan’s nuclear deterrent — an umbrella under which Pakistan long exported terrorism with relative impunity by sending state-reared proxies across the border to carry out grisly attacks. With the Indian government signaling that future terror attacks will be treated as acts of war, India has redrawn the boundaries of escalation, reinforcing that proxy warfare will no longer go unanswered under its new doctrine.

Water Convention, a UN body under United Nations economic commission for Europe has introduced many technology /AI based interventions for management of shared river basins worldwide . UN needs frameworks for enforcement of internationally recognised bilateral or multilateral treaties on shared rivers and related legal structures . This is becoming increasingly critical for sustaining fundamental purpose of the UN ; to promote peace and cooperation amongst the nation states . Weaponisation of water by India will lead to an illegal and dangerous precedent by an upper riparian which the international system can ill afford while preparing to handle impacts of climate change .

Talk of “regime change” in Afghanistan may suit external agendas, but it distracts from the core issue: stability hinges on an inclusive and legitimate political dispensation shaped by Afghans themselves. The Taliban are not apolitical—they reject pluralism and participation. This has limited their domestic and international legitimacy. Without seeking consent or broad inclusion, governance remains narrow, with influence centered between Kandahar (Hibatullah Akhundzada) and Kabul (Sirajuddin Haqqani), but lacking wider political ownership. No durable status quo can rest on exclusion. A system that does not reflect Afghanistan’s diversity risks remaining brittle. Change, therefore, is not a question of “if” but “how.” Whether the Taliban recognize this reality will shape the country’s future trajectory.
