Its hard to grasp just how grotesque and socially destructive corporate owned data driven tech is. Finish BigTechMonopolies. #DecentaliseEverything.

@Keir_Starmer We don't want hope and pride, we want action. You have done nothing positive or meaningful to improve the miserable lives of millions of people in this country saddled with debt and financial misery no matter how hard they work.
English

I will always make decisions that are in the national interest.
It’s why we aren’t getting dragged into the Middle East conflict, and why we are fighting to protect your living standards.
And while opposition parties have responded by dividing communities, we respond with hope and pride.
Pride in our communities, and the hope of a country that’s better for our children.
That’s what we’re fighting for. Vote Labour on Thursday 7 May.

@Rich__Wayne @mxxmck1 @xPeaceLandBread What does the US imprisoning Julian Assange have to do with China?
English

@mxxmck1 @xPeaceLandBread You believe their government? The one that imprisoned journalists for trying to uncover the truth? Naive

@local_man_ @mattzarb Fleecing the public when you have a smokescreen is also a thing. The price of wheat dropped but the price of bread remained high. Once it goes up it stays irrespective of costs. Supermarkets collude also to keep prices up, maximise shareholders profits over feeding ppl.
English

@mattzarb Big mouth, small brain.
Supermarket profit margins are around 2%. Inflation is an input cost hence prices rise. Governments cause inflation. At least get the target right.

The Greens have spawned another superb spokesperson. Amazing what happens when you select candidates rooted in communities instead of parachuting them in from London

🖥 Green councillor Ursula Sutcliffe on Politics North this morning, discussing: 💷 The cost of living: "The working poor is a real thing" ❌️ Divisive politics: "Pitting people 'us against them' isn't the way to do it" 🗳 Local elections: "Labour are done"

Having said that, there is a huge difference between "private credit" (with risk of default) and "public credit" (no risk of default if own currency is used). In my new book, I tried to explain the basics of #MMT without going in too much detail:

Famously, Jared Bernstein noticed that the Fed can print money and borrows money. He was not able to explain why the Fed would borrow money if it could print money. The answer is simple: it does not borrow $.

"The central bank is the sole issuer of banknotes and bank reserves. That means it is the monopoly supplier of the monetary base."
If you are the monopoly issuer of a currency, you cannot "borrow" that currency. (What does that even mean? 🤔)

@leevankleef_lee @renewablesmiffy Capitalism and denial of MMT.
Română

@renewablesmiffy @LupineLives Anything we can build we can afford. Costs are entirely artificial. #MMT. NB: UK used to be world leaders in nuclear power engineering.
English

@LupineLives None of that reduces electricity prices though
English

@renewablesmiffy @jackaspi 'Increased fraction of intermittent power means'....tldr.. We have to depend on gas or other FF because there are currently no technologies available to mitigate it. Harvesting all the wind and sun in UK isn't going to change that it will never be consistent. What solutions?
English

@jackaspi It will do in time not yet.
How would you reduce costs?
English

@renewablesmiffy @jackaspi Yes if we just imagine sunshine in the bleak winter and wind on calm days there would be no need for fossil fuels at all!
English

@jackaspi Additional renewables means higher supply averages and greater gas reduction.
The biggest constraint in the UK is mindset
