My exit poll! As I leave #Bengal, it would be a disservice not to say this: I have come to deeply admire the way women inhabit space here. There is a quiet, almost subconscious elevation of women as independent beings . something that stands in stark contrast to the entrenched misogyny that still finds resonance across much of northern India. Perhaps it stems from a cultural understanding of shakti. A form of empowerment that manifests here in ways both subtle and profound, unlike anywhere else in the country, even in the south. Any woman journalist who has covered political rallies across India will recognize the difference immediately. Other states, a crowd is not just a logistical challenge, it carries risk. the inevitability of wandering hands, the violation masked by chaos. Here, the crowds are no less dense, the air no less heavy with sweat and alcohol—but the hands, for the most part, do not grope. Men step aside to make way. When contact happens, as it inevitably does in chaos, there is visible embarrassment rather than entitlement. What you encounter is not chivalry, but something far rarer: equality. And equality feels far more meaningful. Was never a fan of chivalry in any case :)  There is more. Women politicians across party lines campaign with a striking freedom, aggressive, sharp, unapologetically irreverent, often using what would elsewhere be labelled as ‘masculine’ rhetoric. In most states, such behaviour would invite judgment, even censure. Here, it is met with acceptance,  applause. What feels liberating to an outsider is, in Bengal, simply normal. What we frame as empowerment  here is a cultural undercurrent. I have covered four elections in this state, and each time I have returned with the same sense of awe. Bengal, meanwhile, ambles on with a certain bemusement, as if unaware of what sets it apart. But it is a big deal. And perhaps the most remarkable part is that Bengal does not think so. Governments will come and go. One can only hope that this constant endures, not just how Bengal sees its women, but how, in many ways, it doesn’t. ♥️♥️♥️

@HDFCERGOGIC : So shameful, so disappointing that I am trying to sort this out rather than really helping my MIL! Is it too much to ask to share the policy document that I already paid for 9 days after the payment was made ? Fully expecting you to not respond to this too.

@HDFCERGOGIC : First time I needed to actually use this, and what a disappointment! My MIL is undergoing cancer treatment, and I am fighting with these guys to just give me my policy document. Apparently, it is renewed but the "concerned team" is unable to share the policy!

I’m in Thiruvananthapuram today, but my mind is focused on Nagpur, where the amazing Kerala boys take on Vidarbha in our state’s first-ever Ranji Trophy Final. It’s taken talent, guts, determination, fortitude, courage, and a bit of luck to get this far. Let’s leap the final hurdle now! All the best guys! Will be following your fortunes on @espncricinfo! @KCAcricket @jayeshgeorgem

@arvindgunasekar Was this the same intended "chronology" when after the adoption of the Constitution in 1950, Lok Sabha & assembly elections were held simultaneously from 1951 to 1967 ? Your followers might be unaware fools, but you do know that your tweets show up to many more, right ? 😊

@sardesairajdeep Can't namedrop Mohd. Yunus now, can you ? 😊 "One and all" should condemn, but you won't call out the "one" who should be called out. Where have we seen this before ?

A country that doesn’t value religious freedom is heading into a dark abyss. Bangladesh was seen as a shining light in South Asia till a few years ago. Today, it’s a society going horribly wrong: the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das must be condemned by one and all. Parliament must speak in one voice, Govt of India must do more than just issue statements: Dhaka must reverse its policies . 🙏

@vikramchandra Great point. But should they be voting for a party who always have a "time bound clear plan" for all problems - from Air Pollution to Yamuna Cleaning to Drug Menace - when not in power but miraculously don't have the solutions when voted to power ?

With elections approaching, the residents of Delhi should take a pledge. They will only vote for a party that has a clear, time-bound plan to reduce air pollution. (And yes, that plan can include steps to be taken by the Central and other state governments) How many of you agree?

@IAmSudhirMishra Isn't that applicable for you too, Sir ? Or do you think your political views should be treated separately from others since you are the grandson of an ex-Congress Chief Minister, making you eligible to comment on politics despite being a "celebrity" yourself ?

The tragedy with the Democrats is that they still won't learn. They'll explain the defeat in terms of race and gender, and do some hand-wringing on how the electorate was misinformed and voted wrongly. Without considering the possibility that it's not always about groups and identities. It can be about individuals and aspirations.

@thevirdas Imagine everyone trying to spin the narrative that "Trump will steal the election" for four years only to see him blow it apart before it is midnight at California. I can understand why it can be confusing (and concerning) for you. 😊

@sardesairajdeep Only in India do "journalists" ask their govt for a response to foreign accusations even when the country in question has gone on record to say that there is no cogent proof that they can share or have shared with the Indian govt. What is the point of your law degree ? 😊

So in Canada, a govt minister is forced to answer tough questions on Ottawa’s claims of Indian official involvement in ‘crime’ in that country to a parliament committee . And all of it is on camera and in the public domain. Note: Canadians are asking questions of their OWN govt without fear. In India, no questions can be asked, no answers will be given. And anyone who does would be instantly branded ‘anti-national’!

@thevirdas But isn't it the people with 3 to 60 degrees of separation who form the electorate and whose votes really matter ? It is very easy to fall into the trap of believing in the sweet talk that your 1-2 degrees of separation keep doing since they stand to gain the most. 😊

The American Election. A charisma contest, and now a charisma line up. On either side, I suspect people with real power are often a lot more limited and hands tied than you imagine. The charismatic people who surround them. The people who are three to sixty degrees of separation away from power, the seduced moths around the power flame, those are the people I find funny. They’ll say anything to anyone for one more degree. Historically, power moves on pretty quickly leaving them used and kind of exposed. Later they realise, It is very easy to confuse thousands of cheering people with people who are cheering for you.

@GabbbarSingh Jokes aside - it was actually a fantastically built brand from scratch, that too over a very short span of time. It arguably has(d) a much better brand equity than Air India too. There definitely was enough space to nurture both brands. Pity that @airindia chose otherwise!
