12th INTERNATIONAL DAY OF #YOGA CELEBRATED at HQ Training Command #HQTC, #IAF celebrated International Day of Yoga 2026 on 21 June 2026 with the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from personnel and families , reflecting a shared commitment towards health, wellness and holistic living. The yoga session was conducted from 0630 to 0800 hours in accordance with the Common Yoga Protocol (#CYP) promulgated by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The programme was graced by Air Marshal S Shrinivas, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command and Mrs Sunita Shrinivas, President AFFWA (Regional), along with other senior functionaries of HQ TC. As part of an enriching initiative by AFFWA (Regional), Headquarters Training Command, a visit to the National Institute of Design (NID), Bengaluru, was organised on 09 Jun 26 for the Sanginis of Bengaluru AOR. The visit was conducted in observance of World Environment Day, recognising NID’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible, human-centred design. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Susanth CS, the Dean, NID Bengaluru, followed by interaction with faculty and students, along with glimpses of innovative projects that highlighted the transformative role of design in fostering creativity, sustainability, and positive social impact. As a gesture of appreciation, Mrs Sunita Shrinivas, President, AFFWA (Regional), HQ Training Command, felicitated Dr Susanth CS and Mrs Jagriti Galphade, Associate Senior Faculty, Lead Interaction Design, for their exemplary contributions to nurturing innovation, creativity, and sustainable design practices. The visit concluded with an engaging hands-on design activity. It also marked the beginning of a promising association between NID Bengaluru and AFFWA (R), HQ TC. Inclusive Summer Camp - Celebrating Inclusion & Togetherness An Inclusive Summer Camp was organised by AFFWA (R) HQ TC in collaboration with AFFWA(L), TC (U) for participants from Bengaluru, bringing together 40 children, including young adults with special needs, in a spirit of fun and inclusion. As part of the camp, a Unified Badminton Match between children from AF School and Umeed Asha Kiran School, along with a Lippan Art Workshop, provided an engaging and memorable experience. The event was graced by Mrs Neeta Chaudhari, former President AFFWA. Other adventure activities like zip lining, trekking and swimming were also organised at a popular resort, with wholehearted and enthusiastic participation by the children. AFFWA (Regional) Headquarters Training Command organised an insightful workshop on “Comprehensive Sexuality Education Programme for Children with Special Needs” on 02 May 26 at Bangalore. The event, conducted by Enfold Proactive Health Trust, was graced by Mrs Sunita Shrinivas, President AFFWA (Regional) HQ TC. 22 special children from Bengaluru AOR participated enthusiastically in the session, along with their parents, UAKS teachers and staff, making it a meaningful and inclusive initiative towards awareness, empowerment and safeguarding our children. Smt Vijaya Venkatesh, a Special Educator with over 30 years of experience from Enfold, demonstrated the use of SUVIDHA kits to promote confidence, personal safety and age-appropriate understanding among children with special needs, reflecting AFFWA’s continued commitment towards holistic family welfare. On 30 April 2026, Mrs Sarita Singh, President AFFWA, along with Mrs Yalla Sreevalli, President AFFWA (R), Maintenance Command, inaugurated Umeed Niketan at AF Station Tughlakabad. Conceived as an advanced therapy centre for children with special needs, the "Umeed Niketan" offers a nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and develop life skills through recreational activities tailored to their unique abilities. Supported by advanced therapeutic facilities and a multidisciplinary team of speech, occupational therapists, and clinical psychologists, it stands as a beacon of hope. Its sensory garden and adventure park further promote sensory exploration and the development of fine motor skills. AFFWA (L) 509 SU of AFFWA (R) Eastern Air Command collaborated with the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Shillong, to conduct a Basic Baking Course as part of women empowerment and skill development for Sanginis. The course covered essential baking techniques, including cakes, jams, jellies and preservatives. Total 30 Sanginis from Shillong Peak and EAC participated and successfully completed the training at IHM, Shillong. On 17 Apr 26 at the Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, New Delhi, Mrs Sarita Singh, President AFFWA, felicitated distinguished Women Achievers - spouses of Indian Air Force personnel. Mrs Shashi Tripathi, President NWWA, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. The event celebrated the inspiring accomplishment, dedication and contribution of these Women Achievers in their respective fields at National and International arenas. AFFWA Swabhimaan was also launched, where Swabhimaan volunteers were introduced as a compassionate support network for Veer Naaris. The AFFWA Swabhimaan handbook was unveiled as a meaningful initiative aimed at assisting the Swabhimaan volunteers and AFFWA staff in ensuring that the rightful benefits reach rightful recipients. Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, Professor of Clinical Psychology at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru, conducted an insightful lecture on “Growing Up in the Digital World” on 6th April. The interaction, on special invitation by AFFWA (Regional) Training Command, was attended virtually by all Sanginis in the AOR of AFFWA (R) TC. Dr Sharma highlighted the impact of rapid digital growth in India, particularly on children, and discussed emerging concerns related to excessive screen usage. He explained digital behaviour patterns such as scrolling syndrome, zero inbox syndrome, double-click syndrome and phantom vibration syndrome, along with the 5 Cs framework - Craving, Control, Coping, Compulsion and Consequences - to assess digital dependency. He emphasized practical measures including digital detoxification, digital fasting, sleep discipline, digital hygiene, enhanced physical activity in adherence to WHO guidelines, building digital resilience and the importance of parent support group. The lecture, which evoked tremendous interest, was followed by an engaging Q&A session. Dr Sharma was later felicitated by the President AFFWA (R) TC. AFFWA (L) Uttarlai of AFFWA (R) South Western Air Command, celebrated the International Women’s Day on 16 Mar 2026 by inspiring Sangini entrepreneurs in honorable presence of Chief Guest, Smt Ruma Devi, recipient of India's highest women's honor, the Nari Shakti Puraskar and Padma Shri award. A renowned Indian artisan, social entrepreneur and women's empowerment advocate from Barmer, Rajasthan, famous for reviving traditional crafts and creating sustainable livelihoods for thousands of rural women through her work with the Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan (GVCS). Umeed Vocational Training Centre, Subroto Park participated in the Purple Fest held on 13 Mar 2026 organised by Rashtrapati Bhavan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GoI. Our children had the honour of showcasing their talent in the presence of the Hon’ble President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu. On the occasion, the Hon’ble President of India mentioned that we are moving forward with the collective goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, and that Divyangjan are equal partners in this journey. The Purple Fest was organised to celebrate the talent, achievements, aspirations, inclusion, and empowerment of Divyangjan.
