TOXIC FUMES OF CLANISM Most of the clan-driven debates & efforts around statehood are drifting fumes, baseless & detached from the lived realities. It serves for those in power, while keeping citizens exploited & victimized. Sadly, the citizens keeps it alive & in the system.

Muqdisho’s outrage over Israel’s ambassador to Somaliland is just only headline-chasing act. @IsraeliPM recognised Somaliland in last year, so this was the obvious next step. However, instead of media theatrics, FGS should focus on its own legitimacy crisis & political failures.

The Federal Republic of #Somalia expresses its firm condemnation of the recent announcement by the #Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the appointment of a diplomatic representative to the northern region of Somalia, #Somaliland.

Below translated verses from Gudgude that symbolize Somaliland’s determination: “Until I receive due recognition from the corners of my world, From East and West alike, until a hand is extended to me, Among both Muslims and others, until my cause reaches them all” Hadraawi, AHUN

This short commentary explores 3 critical questions: 1. Can Somaliland convert its livestock & mineral wealth into real economic growth? 2. Are higher education, the national budget & development planning strategically aligned or working in silos? 3. What actions are needed?

Republic of Somaliland’s case is misframed. Sovereignty gained on 26 June 1960 was never extinguished; 18 May 1991 reaffirmed its continuation. Israel’s stance is re-Recognition, not new recognition. Not secession or succession—Somaliland is a unique legal reality blocked by politics, NOT law. #RoSLprevails

Somaliland’s core challenge is not its potentiality — it is leadership execution and executive team selection. Somaliland has stability, institutional experience, capable professionals, and strong geo-strategic positioning. The real constraint increasingly lies in how executive governments are assembled, empowered and run. #President_Cirro came to office on a clear promise of merit-based governance. However, early signals suggest a continuation of a worrying trend seen in the previous administration: cautious and politically constrained team selection rather than bold, competence-driven appointments. Historically, Somaliland’s early presidential leadership showed a different standard. - President Abdirahman Tuur - President Egal - President Rayale - President Silanyo (to a large extent) demonstrated confidence in selecting strong executive teams. Their leadership reflected institutional authority and personal confidence in appointing capable individuals who could govern, deliver, and strengthen state institutions. From the later Silanyo years onward, this standard began to erode. The issue was not simply political balance or external pressure — it increasingly reflected hesitation in empowering heavyweight, competent, and independent-minded professionals within government structures. Today, the consequences are visible: - merit-based selection weakened - competent professionals underutilized - executive depth reduced - governance momentum slowed A striking example often discussed in policy circles is how highly qualified figures such as Dr. Mohamed Fadal and Dr. Abdirahman Bayle — both with significant governance and professional expertise — are perceived as being sidelined from substantial executive roles, while the country urgently needs heavyweight leadership within cabinet portfolios. This reflects a broader structural concern: leadership discomfort with strong, competent personalities can weaken institutional performance and slow national progress. - Somaliland does not lack talent. - Somaliland does not lack opportunity. - Somaliland does not lack strategic importance. What it needs is #leadership confident enough to appoint strong teams and empower them to deliver. - Strong presidents build strong teams. - Strong teams build strong states. Restoring a culture of confident, merit-based executive selection is essential for Somaliland’s next phase of governance and state-building. @LasgelInstitute @SORADINSTITUTE @HargeisaDebates @jamhuriyada @Buraopost @RAbdiAnalyst #Somaliland #Governance #Leadership #PublicPolicy #StateBuilding #RoSL_prevails #InstitutionalDevelopment #Qarannimo #Hoggaamin_Kalsooni_leh

Pres. @Abdirahmanirro's handover bill is a major step forward, though it should have been good fully empower existing oversight bodies; Auditor General & Good Governance, than committee. I Hope it ends baseless handover debts & ensures all public assets are fully accounted for.

Poet Muse Cali Faruur captured this back in 1993: how Egypt advances its own interests & Nile strategies via manipulations of Somalia, often fueling tensions with neighbouring states. Somaliland read the situation early, choosing good neighbourliness & its own national interest

Allah created life in pairs, yet women remain central to every stage of human life. Consider these examples: who is often at the heart of love, care & belonging? 1. Parents – the mother 2. Siblings – the sister 3. Spouse – the wife 4. Children – the daughter Alahayow Haween daa!

Drought in Somaliland is not just a natural - it is a policy choice. Water, agriculture, livestock, environment, fisheries, resettlement & disaster-response institutions together receive $16.2M, while the Ministry of the Presidency alone receives $16.3M (excluding the Guards).

Almost every 🇸🇴 political elite eventually concedes “that there is no will nor plan for unity in Muqdisho”, yet many stick on & lean to this unrealistic narrative. Somaliland is rooted in decades of political history & everyday realities. There is no turning back; so mind yours.
