@TMFScottP Now people will have even less reasons to use cash. Cash might be more expensive for the business overall, but businesses won't think like that. Cash users just pay more under this I guess. I think I preferred the days of minimum EFTPOS but no hidden fees.

Good news, in terms of both public opinion and (broadly) the economics. There was some evidence that the surcharge did change behaviour, but I suspect most of us just copped it sweet and paid more, even if unhappily.

@profgreeneggs @mlw_es @disco___cat Unfortunately we can't do anything about that! The actual day length is just too short. Even if in winter we brought the clocks later by an hour , then it would sunset at 5pm. And that might be even worse...

@disco___cat Good, it’s not dark until 8 am! In Melbourne, we get enough natural light in summer without turning the clock back. No need for it to be light at 9:30pm

@cosmicjester Yeah, the show would have been fine. And you know the car he drove and set on fire? They bought 3 of them for all different filming locations. And spend months modifying one to look like the others because of different models and import duties.

@anthc I think most of us wouldn’t have noticed if the scenes set in Vegas or South America were actually filmed closer to New Mexico. Until your tweet I had no idea they actually went to those locations to shoot

Somehow game of thrones managed 1 season a year for most of its run in a detailed fantasy world that was filmed in several different countries. How did the entertainment industry someone lose the ability to do one season a year since Covid?
Wizarding World Direct@WW_Direct

The HARRY POTTER TV series won't have one season a year "For some of the bigger shows like Harry Potter, huge world-building shows, it would be nice to have those on an annual basis. But from a production point of view, it’s just not possible." - Casey Bloys

One Nation has largely gained ground not because they have won it in a pitched political battle, but because Labor and the LNP have largely ceded the field on key issues such as housing and immigration by simply not having credible plans in the eyes of the electorate.

@Snarky_gnome It’s bizarre (and immoral) that we accept it. The Dutch didn’t!

@JacintaAllanMP Every home should have a price in Australia, the rest of the developed world display prices so why can't we? Transparency is key.

A price withheld is a price hidden. Buying a home is the biggest purchase you'll make. The system should be on your side.

@troyhunt @FileShot_io Yeah, it would be tedious finding all the discussion, probably would make one angry reading crazy comments. (I realised I missed a few words.)

One for the “but age verification means *everyone* has to show their gov ID or hand over biometric data” brigade. For the first time ever, I just got an age challenge on a social media platform:

@troyhunt @FileShot_io Cool, I have new research project idea. Real life examples of fallacies that did occur and did not occur. Sometimes bad things really did evolve to really things, but probably times when people said they will but just didn't get worse.

@FileShot_io That’s called “the slippery slope fallacy”: that a reasonable measure should be discarded based on speculation that one day it might do something completely different

You can tell there are plenty of chancers in the market right now… especially on the #SunshineCoast 👀 This block of land was purchased for $655,000 back in 2014. Now? They’re chasing close to $6 million for the house and land. That’s not growth — that’s ambition. Are we looking at genuine value… or peak optimism? 🤔 Link below 👇

@cosmicjester Oh wow it is too. That's pathetic in this day. Or even decades ago. Trains to Ipswich run later than that... Heck vlines to Victorian towns run later than that.

This one always gets people angry. if you travel internationally a fair bit a simple skybus every few minutes right to the city centre is pretty good compared to many other cities. People have this idea that every city has an airport train and it’s really not the case
cosmic jester@cosmicjester

@jesushobo My unpopular view is that the skybus is fine

What’s going on in the Middle East confirms to me that Australia should be more European than Europe. We are all over here away from wars and skullduggery. We should be waking up late, long lunching, vibing at the beach and having weekends off but we’ve bought way too much into US hustle culture. If there is a place in the world that should be like Europe it’s Australia.
