It's actually not face for branding only works when people already know you if you're a small channel, nobody recognizes your face yet, so it adds zero value and just takes up real estate on the thumbnail that can be used for something else that actually helps with getting the click the thumbnail's job is to sell the click. your face (and like any other elements used in a thumbnail) is only a tool for that, not a requirement

BUT you are right that making videos for fun first really does help set you up for success!

@ijustine @mws @robertoblake Making your face part of your brand only works if you're pretty. I'm that case, yours entitled. Also: why does a channel have to be a "brand" - not everyone makes videos for some capitalist reason. What happens to making videos just for fun like in the old days.

Idk what YouTuber needs to hear this but.. Your face does NOT have to be in every thumbnail you make I see creators ruin perfectly good thumbnails by forcing their face into it, because they see other YouTubers doing it But I promise it’s not always needed

Overall probably but I mean someone like dave2d gets away with having extremely clean thumbnails and people are able to recognise him from his style alone I think a better way of saying it is make your thumbnails consistently recognisable to your audience whether that involves your face or not, maybe that’s what op meant but idk
