@mooreslawisdead @neverselling777 Graphics cards do not have HDMI-CEC that can power on your TV like a console does. CEC adapters are not common or easy to configure, and most of them only support HDMI 2.0.

@neverselling777 Jesus Christ - graphics cards have HDMI.

So if you add up the $289 RTX 5050, the $299 7500X3D bundle, and then maybe throw in another $130 for a budget SSD + Case w/ PSU...you still only get to $718!!!
I can make something BETTER than the Steam Machine, even in 2026, for close to $700 with NEW DIY parts!
Valve is a Multi-Billion Dollar company. If they can't make the Steam Machine around as cheap as the PS5 (so less than $700), then they shouldn't launch it. I shouldn't be better at making a console than them lol.
Moore's Law Is Dead@mooreslawisdead
And btw to the people that say "wut about da RAM?" - if you go to Microcenter right now you can get a 7500X3D bundle for $299 that comes with RAM and a Motherboard! This would run CIRCLES around the Steam Machine's CPU!!!

@FortniteLinux @phoronix It is it many ways, yet oddly enough every Windows user I know who has tried Ubuntu has absolutely hated it because of Gnome. They usually end up being perfectly fine with Linux once I give them a KDE distro.
English

@phoronix Might have to start calling it the "Windows of Linux distros" lmao.

@LundukeJournal I agree. Especially on the last point. They will exempt open source this time and come back for it later. When they do - no one will give a shit about open source.
English

The concept of government mandated Age / ID Verification on Operating Systems is appalling.
The idea of carving out an exception ONLY for “Open Source” software is EVEN WORSE. It is morally repugnant.
“Age Verification on Operating Systems” is either right… or it’s wrong. If it’s wrong (and it is), it’s wrong for every computer user.
…
“First they Age Verified the iOS users, and I did not speak out — because I was not an iOS user.
Then they Age Verified the Mac users, and I did not speak out — because I was not a Mac user.
Then they Age Verified the Windows users, and I did not speak out — because I was not a Windows user.
Then they Age Verified me, the Linux / Open Source user — and there was no one left to speak for me.”

@FrameworkPuter I don't care how good the new trackpad is, I just can't do it. I'm sorry. I like what I like.

The web is disappearing 🕳️
According to a Pew Research Center report, 26% of pages from 2013-2023 are no longer accessible.
But that’s not the whole story.
In a new study published in Internet Archive's book, VANISHING CULTURE, data scientists working with the Wayback Machine have found:
16% have been restored through the Wayback Machine.
56% are preserved before they disappear.
Preservation is the remedy for cultural loss.

@RobuxTRex @ProtonPrivacy I use Distroshelf to install their Debian packages.
but yeah, aside from actual Arch or AUR packages, I'd settle for an official Flatpak.
English

@ProtonPrivacy could you please please please support other linux distros (e.g. arch) OFFICIALLY instead of making us rely on random AUR packages...

@murderbymodem @theo @FrameworkPuter @Lenovo @HP I have this and it's amazing, works with almost anything. The clitmouse is by far the best non-mouse, non-trackball pointing device. Instant transition from typing to pointing is amazing, drag and drop gesture is way easier to perform than touchpad.

Day 263 of being under investigation for a non existent crime after @SEGA colluded with @CityPolice to raid my house, steal my consoles, fabricate evidence and attempt to frame me for a crime to cover up their own internal negligence. All now face default judgment on Human Rights violations and multiple individuals face personal liability lawsuits for misfeasance in public office.
I eagerly await the return of my lawfully owned property.
