@lilyraynyc You are either trustworthy or not. You can't have a huge stinking trash can in front of your five star restaurant and expect people to trust it.

These are 3 well-known brands that are also listed as case studies of AI content scaling tools They scaled a lot of page templates that can manipulate AI answers, like excessive "best X" content, self-promotional listicles, scaled comparison/alternative pages, etc. There's also some spammy structured data in the mix. Each was hit hard by the Jan 20 update this year, and the crash has continued ever since. This last core update only accelerated the declines. These are views of the US organic Google visibility across their entire domains (via @sistrix); even though the AI content generation appears to have been isolated to one subfolder on the site (from what I can tell), the impact is happening across the full domain Now all companies are at the lowest visibility they've seen in 5+ years Google is not playing around.

This is the biggest step Google has made so far at monetising AI Mode – sponsored ads are now being mixed with organic results. Previously, sponsored results only had the ability to show at the end of the response, either within a carousel of sponsored products or appearing as a link card preview, as shown. This is a change that was announced at Google Marketing Live a few days ago and covered by @rustybrick as the new "Highlighted Answer Ads", and I'm now seeing them live within AI Mode for several queries. There is also a different type of ad called "Coversational Discovery Ads", which can also display within the AI Mode output, with the example shown by Google seemingly showing the ad as showing at the end of the response. The big difference in the formatting of the ads and the free listing results that sit both above and below is that the ads go directly to the product page URL, whereas clicking the free listing results opens the standard product grid with a selection of retailers (being a less direct traffic mechanism). This is the biggest step that Google has made so far at monetising AI Mode, because users could easily not see the subtle "sponsored" label and treat it as a reputable recommendation from the list of items within the output. Link in the comments to more examples of the new Highlighted Answer Ads in the wild, and make sure to subscribe to my newsletter, where I'll be giving a rundown of this change and the other impactful updates from this month.

A new level of Google crazy?!? This is truly bizarre. I have a warning in my Google Search Console about a security issue with Google claiming it detected harmful content on my website. Wut? This is a brand new site I'm building in the home services niche. 1/3

This is a real screenshot from Google's new Search Generative AI performance report in Search Console Importantly, they didn't include "Clicks" because—presumably—they don't want you to see how little traffic they send

Roll call! Who's still active here on X? I need an update for my "X-Twitter Engagers to Follow" post. And most of the accounts I suggested are dead by now. :-( Yet I don't want to delete it! I still believe there is some good in this community.

@JeremyRiveraSEO Social media was SEO 2.0 - like twenty years ago. AI search optimization is just another layer of SEO. SEO 2.0 (nowadays called social SEO) can help with both, by way of Reddit. When you have a severe case of acronymia and stammering things like AEO, GEO, AIO seek o doctor.

@lilyraynyc Can you share the links? Or are you under NDA? This is not SEO outing or something so why not allow peer review? I'd love to learn from them. I might be having similar results btw. but I changed my analytics tool recently so can't now for sure.

Not all publisher sites are seeing declines in organic traffic YOY... these are 2 sites I audited a little over a year ago - both have actually improved in traffic in the past ~6 months despite AI Overviews ramping up. All human-written, expert content focused on a specific niche. They're doing well in Discover too. Cool to see, and pretty rare right now 😩

Thank you! Did not want to single out anybody. Yet it's obvious that once you become an influencer with a huge following on top of your work you can't possibly engage with everybody.

I have too much work to do, but appreciate this space to keep informed and engaged with the community. I should definitely contribute more though, that has dropped off a little with the work at Torque amping up. Always happy to respond though to people, even you @onreact (for the last 20yrs or so 😂)

@Google Did you roll it out globally already? The search box I see can't even distinguish between SEO and Korean celebrities it seems. Is this really the next-gen super advanced AI tool or am I seeing an old version? Usually I use other search engines now or the "Web" tab.

So when I search for [seo] or even [SEO] Google shows lots of Korean restaurants and celebrities. I'm not into k-pop though. Why can't they even disambiguate properly when I use the UPPERCASE acronym? When I use Google these days I default to the "Web" tab anyway.

I'm confused due to all the hype about "the biggest upgrade to our Search box in 25 years". Did they even roll it out already? Globally? All I see is a bunch of false positives. I use mainly Google alternatives so I'm not even sure it's the new interface LOL.
