For years we heard boasts that the F-35's many flaws didn't matter because you couldn't detect it because of stealth and if you could, you certainly couldn't target it. And now we see that the F-35 is not only detectable but that Iranian (and not Russian or Chinese) electro-optics and missiles have harder lock on it than Israel has on the US' nuts.

Anyone arguing that minor damage to a US aircraft, sustained while lollygagging over hostile airspace is an epoch altering event is arguing the US military is so strong that the mere damaging of one of its weapons is a great feat.

For years they touted the F-35 as an invincible weapon against Russian/Chinese AD radars. Iran has not just only detected but managed to track the US jet before striking it. The F-35 destroyed or not, this is a terrible PR campaign for the US.

The GCC is in a major, existential bind: - Enter the war against Iran and risk devastating consequences; - Close its airspace to the US but dismantle its foundational security architecture; - No leverage to compel the US to end the war; - Do nothing and lose anyway.

I’m convinced most officials & specialists are too immersed in the moment to realize a certain basic fact about why Iran is striking the Gulf. When Iran was fighting in Syria & Iraq, its field commanders & their proxies (and their ecosystems in countries of Iranian influence) always promised that the next battle would be in the Gulf. This was conveyed, explicitly or otherwise, by Qassem Soleimani and allies like Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, Hassan Nasrallah and the Assad regime. It was part of a doctrine guiding Iran’s regional strategy, not mere passing comments. (The same language that Israel began using against regional countries only recently. “Qatar is next” or “Turkey is the new Iran” etc. Iran has used that language for many years.) Now, Gulf countries look at Iran and wonder: Why is Iran hitting us when we tried to talk Trump out of striking it? Iran knows we tried our best. Iran’s action is understandable if it targeted the UAE and Saudi Arabia, but why mediators like Qatar? Yes we have US bases, yes we can scream at the US, but it still makes little sense, even from a basic divide-and-conquer strategy. But Iran sees this war as having begun at least a decade or so ago, and the Gulf states played a vital role in getting Iran to where it is today. The Gulf is the problem, not just Israel or the US. Strategically reckless, but that is the plain IRGC logic. This is clear if those officials had followed the rhetoric over the last 1-2 decades and the nitty-gritty behavior of Iran on a ground level outside Iran.

Not only does Ukraine station troops in schools and kindergartens and use ambulances for troop movements (I can cite proof of all of that) they encourage the production of weapons in civilian areas.

The same media that fed the West lies about WMDs in Iraq and an imminent overthrow of Iran's government lied to the world about Russian meat wave attacks in Ukraine. If they did take place, there would be hours of drone footage of them taking place. And yet there isn't one video showing a Russian meat wave attack. And that makes sense.
