To be fair there is a global rule where the more expensive a home is, the more likely it is to be vacant. You can see how negatively this impacts cities; they lose value when unoccupied. I’m not for randomly extracting wealth of rich people but on the other hand someone who owns a place somewhere and never goes there is also extracting the wealth of that locality. So of all the dumb taxes Mamdani could impute this one is on the more reasonable side. You gotta admit the guy has incredible instincts.

Also you weren’t getting scolded for “reading ahead” you were get scolded for distracting the other kids and being an obnoxious nuisance once you finish the reading. If you read ahead and then draw quietly at your desk, or read something else, no one cares or knows.

I don't have much of a tyrant teacher story except that I would constantly draw in my notebooks, and like detailed, effortful drawings, because the teacher's words were too obvious and boring to pay full attention to. And some teachers got mad and told me to stop. But those drawings are the only reason I saved some of those notebooks

like we have modern ways to solve every possible problem that a doorman solves and my sense is that the profession continues to be inflicted upon a huge chunk of manhattan bc of unions?? rather than just being like a nice luxury thing for super fancy apartments to feel fancy

@it_unprofession I had a gym just disappear one day, like rooms cleared out, equipment being loaded onto a truck, and no one was reachable to refund the remainder of my annual membership. I eventually got it back thru a chargeback though

Canceling a gym membership shouldn't require a hostage negotiation. I joined a local fitness club three years ago and stopped going almost immediately. Yesterday I finally decided to stop paying the monthly fee. I logged into their app. There is no cancel button anywhere in the UI. I checked the website and it told me to call support. Support told me I had to submit a cancellation request in person. I drove to the gym on my lunch break. The manager looked at me like I was abandoning a puppy. He asked why I was leaving. I told him my personal ROI on this membership is completely negative. He offered to freeze my account for a small maintenance fee. I told him I just want to sever ties entirely. He sighed and said I need to provide a handwritten letter of intent and thirty days notice. I am currently drafting a formal breakup letter to an elliptical machine. I might just cancel my credit card. It seems easier.
