@TimothyImholt Telegram or Signal also fit most of those qualifiers as well but given the existing WhatsApp user count it's likely easier to simply use it. From a nerd standpoint it's backend was built using Erlang which is cool.

@TimothyImholt IMHO it's the best product Meta has out there right now (low bar I know) - Treats iPhone/Android equally - Great group chat/community features - STRONG international usage (sms fee avoidance) - If you sim swap while traveling no impact.

Someone just DMd me and within three back and forth messages the request for WhatsApp came up. I don't use it. "But how do you stay in contact with your friends?" Erm....The cell phone I'd be loading WhatsApp on seems to work for that. What the fuck is it with WhatsApp?

@AFC_dinho @nicolefshirman It's a topic many don't know about (even hockey fans) so I think it's fair to include the bad with the good. Again it doesn't take away from THIS story but it does raise awareness - especially for families that maybe don't have a background in hockey

@TheRedcapsNet @nicolefshirman I’m sure there are stories from all over the world of this. The world is a scary place, but this post was about the NHL doing it. We should just keep the conversation to the very cool and positive stories that has brought us. There is no need to doom and gloom everything.

@AFC_dinho @nicolefshirman It is likely very rare at the NHL level - but that's because billeting is also super rare at the NHL level. That said a vast majority of NHL players have been a billet player earlier their life, and some didn't have good experiences.

@TheRedcapsNet @nicolefshirman I’ve never heard stories like this in the national league though (maybe I’m ignorant). Feels like that’s what OP is talking about.

@A_DungeonDelver @jondelarroz ^ This 100% Star Trek Picard S3 was a fun watch. I may be in the minority but I also really like Strange New Worlds even if it gets silly quirky at times... it still feels trek at it's core. Outside of that Paramount has shit all over the franchise.

@DaddyWarpig @DrellWilliam you're confusing security for customs. TSA (and their equivs from other countries) are simply making sure you're not a danger to the flight (security theater). Customs you will pass as you enter any country to declare goods and state reason for entering etc.

@DrellWilliam Don't you interact with the TSA when you land? Like they have to clear you to enter the country or whatever?

That is NOT the way to sneak past the TSA. That is the way to get your luggage deep searched and also maybe a pat down or more. There have been complaints.

@yarrfish @davepl1968 I'm gen x.. we were more inquisitive because the alternative was boredom. They don't have that alternative... its not a fault on them it is on the environment they are in.

@TheRedcapsNet @davepl1968 Not the intent. It's just that we're different. Yeah I work in tech, but I can rebuild an engine as well. We had the freedom and imagination to tinker and experiment. They grow up via instructions. A to B then C. 80% of us were inquisitive. 20% of them are (being generous).

I taught the elementary kids' computer lab at the local elementary school for about ten years. By about fourth grade, the kids vary widely in PC ability. You'll have one kid porting Doom and one kid crying because CAPS LOCK is on and he can't log in. One kid trying to eat toner while another fixes the projector. A lot of that is comfort - you can tell some kids use a PC at home a great deal while others have seemingly no exposure. Does it matter? No idea! I understand limiting screen time and so on, but sometimes kids who genuinely have a knack for it are being held back by good intentions! When I sold my company, we donated all the extra PCs and monitors to the school... a couple of dozen Dell Dimension 4200s and so on. Absolutely required for any mid-2000s computer lab!

@yarrfish @davepl1968 Shouldn't be considered a long day should be considered a great day where you taught a bright kid something new. You didn't come out of the womb knowing this shit, so pass it along, don't facepalm and make them feel bad teach them!

@davepl1968 I'm fixing the computer of a friends kid on Saturday. He's a straight-A student, honors everything, gaming addict. Me: Okay, restart and go into BIOS. Him: ? Me: On restart press F2 to go into BIOS. Him: What is F2? What is that other word?!? It was a long day.

@davepl1968 I don't think any kid that is gifted is being held back by a parent limiting their mobile device time. I do miss computer lab time, we learned a bunch about networking getting Duke3D to work :P

It's insane to me that most Americans can't even comprehend metric units and Celsius without converting. I understand it's not the system used, but it IS the international system, used in all scientific fields and ~every other country. Useful to at least instill the basics.
