@Halo_chains she didn’t actually ask). After I sent em to mom w/venmo for $ and she went ballistic on me. NOT for taking her kid w/out consent but for requesting $$. This wasn’t even a party it was a rando snow day thing. I was baffled this was even a thing but maybe i’m wrong. 🤷‍♀️

Serious question: if somebody invites your kid to a birthday party at some restaurant, do you assume that the family is taking care of lunch or do you give your kid money? I dropped my kid off assuming lunch was gonna be taken care of, but he came running back out to the truck asking me for cash. I gave it to him no problem, but I was a little bit surprised.

@michelleakin @DStrachman Have at it. Honestly I just got sick of the “ask hand” always being out. Just said “you want it that bad, here’s your list.” Ironic how many things instantly fall off the “must have” list. 😂

our 9 year old called a meeting with us last night and then laid out a plan she has to launch a game she’s building on steam. she has goals with dates attached and had clarity on the amount of money she would need and how she could potentially make it back. and even with that she wasn’t pie-in-the-sky about it, she knew she might not make any money. she wasn’t asking us for the money yet but just wanted to make us aware of her plans and to make sure she had our support. my husband agreed and they continued chatting, but then she turned to me and said “daddy is on board, but do I have your support, too?” I of course said yes, then continued listening to her tell us of her marketing plans amidst throwing astonished looks at my husband I’m not surprised by this whole thing in general, but I was specifically surprised by the way she held court with us. the negotiation skill and the clarity of communication. and how she’s displaying skills I did not possess until much later in life. It makes sense when I think about it because she’s emulating us. I was never spoken to with such clarity, I was mostly ordered around and told “no” and “because I said so” Honestly have to give most of the credit here to my husband who is ALWAYS down to have a reasonable negotiation with her when he wants her to do something or when there’s something she wants. He thrives in this part of parenting in particular, and it is fascinating to see this result.

@michelleakin @DStrachman this is beautiful to see and she 100% DID NOT learn this at school (my pers soapbox). Around ur daughter’s age I taught him how to do a pitch. Told him that every time he wants me to buy him something (outside of basic needs) he has to show up with a plan and pitch it. Bravo u!

The biggest cheat code is eating the same meals every day. It's been shown to reduce total calorie intake by 40%. You make less food decisions meaning you rely less on willpower. The leanest people I know aren't aiming for variety. They're eating similar meals every day.

@SahilBloom Protein bars/healthfood bars. Etc. Even the ones that say they’re made w/ real ingreds. All sugar. 2nd choice. Yogurt cups. PPL think eating one for bfast is great cuz it’s Greek yogurt (good if plain) but toppings are full of sugar—even fruit.

@SeanEwen separate day into two parts. Morn & Afternoon. For each there’s only 1 thing i MUST do to call it a success. If I do more-bonus. We fabricate so much urgency. Ask myself “if that email goes tomorrow will my company *really* fail? Answer is always “no”

I’m fortunate enough to orchestrate two in-person businesses from thousands of miles away without being on calls all day or drowning in email. Here's the stack that makes it possible: My EA evolved from admin to deputy over time, which means she now makes decisions on my behalf without asking for permission. By the time I find out about most problems, they're already solved. Meanwhile, I'm happy to spend 40 hours once to save 15 minutes per week forever if the time savings compound across multiple employees. That's how I think about workflow automation and AI. I also aim for three days per week that are meeting-free, which gives me the space to actually think instead of just reacting. That protected thinking time is where the best decisions happen, not in back-to-back meetings. Delegation handles the daily decisions, automation removes repeated tasks, and protected time lets me focus on what actually moves the needle. That’s what’s worked for me. What’s something that works for you?
