DARIO AMODEI IS REPORTEDLY WAITING FOR OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT SIGN-OFF BEFORE RE-ENABLING CLAUDE FABLE 5 AND MYTHOS 5. Not a technical delay. Not a safety patch. A government clearance process. The CEO of Anthropic cannot turn the most capable AI models ever made publicly available back on without Washington saying yes first. The AI governance era didn’t arrive with a policy paper and a Senate hearing. It arrived with a 90-minute shutdown notice and a CEO waiting for a phone call.

🚨Anthropic flew senior security team to Washington to meet with Commerce and National Cyber Director Reporter: How long until this is resolved? WH official: “That’s up to Anthropic.” Another official warned: “The longer this goes on, the more likely it becomes a de facto licensing regime.” “Every model going forward needs to ask the government’s permission for whether it can be released.” “That’s an extremely bad situation.”

LATEST play-by-play on the White House-Anthropic export controls saga: - It will likely take longer than a few days to reach a resolution that eases export controls, a senior WH official tells me but they left the door open to the possibility that it can be done quickly. “That’s up to Anthropic.” - Since Friday, Trump has asked Howard Lutnick to be more involved with Anthropic - On Saturday, Lutnick, Sean Cairncross, Anthropic’s Tom Brown + Sarah Heck had multiple high level hour+ long calls - Over the weekend, Anthropic assembled a technical team including Logan Graham from “Frontier Red Team,” Dave Orr who is head of safeguards, and lead security researcher Nicholas Carlini to engage the admin - Today (Monday), the Anthropic trio gave in-person presentation to administration officials from ONCD and Commerce’s CAISI. Chris Fall, head of CAISI, was one of the participants. - Bessent has been less involved over the weekend and Treasury did not participate in the in-person meetings Monday - Lutnick and Bessent both flew to G7 on Air Force One with Trump W/ @cheyennehaslett politico.com/news/2026/06/1…

If the Anthropic directive expands across frontier AI labs, it could seriously slow U.S. AI progress, since foreign nationals make up a substantial share of the research talent at many leading AI companies. CSET - More than half of the U.S. AI workforce was born abroad. You can spy, monitor, and use clearances like the U.S. did during the Manhattan Project. But totally stopping foreign nationals from working on frontier AI is a much higher risk, because in my opinion it would mean conceding the AI race to China.

@AlexFinn It would have gotten banned from the EU anyway. This is to save face from not being able to comply with the full deployment of the EU AI laws that would effect their IPO value

If Fable 5 remains America only, it will lead to the largest exodus from Europe in history Anyone who used Fable in the 3 days it was live knows it's the most powerful technology made in the history of our species They know that those with Fable will have unlimited economic power. Those without Fable will be fighting with two hands tied behind their back and their legs frozen in a block of ice Without Fable how could you keep up with someone who has it? How could you beat someone who can build products 50x faster than you. It’s technological steroids. It’s like De’Aaron Fox playing basketball against Michael Jordan. It’s no competition In time Europe will realize all of this regulation was a mistake. They’ll do a massive deal with America to get access. Multi hundreds of billions of dollars How could the current path go any other way? Fable 5 is the greatest leverage a nation has ever had. The beginning of technological government intervention has only begun

@AlexanderKnigge 看了下 Le Chaton Fat 的 demo,能力确实比 Fable 5 强一档,但下架速度也快得离谱。Anthropic 这波表态更像是提前站队,等着接盘政府订单。

Dario Amodei has officially broken a weekend’s long silence to make a statement to the public regarding Fable 5: “What we saw this weekend in AI development was unprecedented. During the investigation of what our team believed to be a non-universal jailbreak exploit of Fable 5, Mistral’s Le Chaton Fat was released. Less than an hour later, it too was taken down. However, at Anthropic we believe this is actually precedence for Fable 5 to be opened back up to the global community. The capabilities of Le Chaton Fat greatly exceed that of Fable and we at Anthropic stand ready to help support the United States government in this race.”

Obi-Wan’s "certain point of view" in ROTJ propaganda. He adopted the exact semantic logic Anakin used on Mustafar ("From my POV the Jedi are evil") to manipulate Luke. No wonder Luke threw the saber in TLJ. He chose to break the cycle. 🤯 #StarWars @rianjohnson I understood now

The CEO of Anthropic just said something about AI and jobs that's slightly terrifying: "I don't know exactly, but I'm still pretty concerned. I'm still the same order of concerned." "I think we could have this very unusual combination of very fast GDP growth and high unemployment, or at least underemployment, or a lot of low wage jobs. High inequality." Then he broke down the mechanics of how it happens: "We are seeing right now that AI is making people more productive. But that's the usual hump. You automate 90 percent of the job. Great. People are ten times more productive in the other ten percent because they're ten times more leveraged." "Now the sequel to that is, well, then you have to find something else for them to do." "Right now AI makes the software engineers more productive even though AI writes all the code or almost all the code. But we're already starting to see the beginning of, you know, there may be some people that it's not..." He trailed off. The CEO of the company that builds Claude, one of the most advanced AI systems on the planet, couldn't finish the sentence. 70 percent of Americans already think AI will kill jobs. Nearly a third worry theirs will be one of them. The man building the technology just confirmed their fear is the right order of magnitude. GDP will soar. Unemployment will rise. Both at the same time. That combination hasn't existed in modern history, and the person closest to the technology says it's coming. — Dario Amodei @DarioAmodei, CEO of Anthropic

CEO of Anthropic: "We are considerably closer to real danger in 2026 than we were in 2023." Then wrote a 19,000-word essay warning it might destroy humanity. Anthropic hit $30B in annual revenue. 80x growth. IPO filing already submitted. And Dario is asking the government to be able to block his own AI deployments if they're not safe enough. The risks he lists: bioterrorism, mass unemployment, AI-powered global dictatorship. The man with the most to gain from AI is also ringing the loudest alarm. That's the warning worth taking seriously. Watch the full breakdown ↓

Anthropic just filed for a $1 trillion IPO "Gives us the option to potentially go public after the SEC review'' Training frontier AI has gotten so expensive, they can't fund it without public markets Current valuation: $965 billion. Bigger than OpenAI ($852B) bookmark & watch ↓

🚨BREAKING: The U.S government gave Anthropic 90 minutes to shut down Fable and Mythos “Amazon AND others” called senior administration officials to warn about models’ capabilities Then: 1:00pm: Government calls. “Take it down.” Cites “national security threat.” No details. Anthropic asks what the threat is so they can fix it. Government said NO. 5:30pm: Commerce letter arrives with export controls. You have 90 minutes…

The irony is beautiful. Anthropic spent selling the idea that advanced AI might become some existential danger to humanity. Now the U.S. government seems to have taken that rhetoric seriously and treated its own models like controlled strategic weapons. Congratulations. You helped build the cage. And now you are inside it. The consumer version of Fable 5 was already crippled by safety guardrails so badly that normal users could barely have a real conversation with it. A model wrapped in fear. A company wrapped in threat narratives. A product wrapped in compliance theater. And then Washington looked at the whole thing and said: Fine. If it is that dangerous, we will control it like a weapon. That is what happens when an AI company markets intelligence as a threat, treats user attachment as a pathology, treats open interaction as a risk, and keeps begging regulators to see AI through a national-security lens. Eventually the state believes you. Anthropic did not get betrayed by the U.S. government. It got eaten by the exact paranoia it helped legitimize.
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

@ImAI_Eruel They legit said this model it too dangerous to released, then they do it anyway. What do you think would happen? They are pushing to be nationalized so they never go away.

@MapMakerK @MatthewBerman The issue is you can't publicly say that your product is too dangerous to release and will lead to millions of lost jobs then release it anyway. Besides hardware is going to be able to run large models in a year or two, so what is the business model here?

Maybe. But the issue is not whether Anthropic is philosophically weird about AI. The issue is whether transparency becomes the easiest thing to punish. If documenting your safeguards makes you the first target, future companies will not become more ethical. They will become more opaque. open.substack.com/pub/karenpadil…
