I think everyone should go through basic training. It teaches you a lot of life lessons and discipline as well as puts some grit in ya. The weapons safety training alone would be extremely valuable to our society. And thank you. You’ve been a breath of fresh air. U.S. vets are under a lot of scrutiny at the moment.

Yes, some veterans commit fraud on the system, it’s not perfect. But to say you MUST serve in combat to get the compensation disregards the injuries we sustained in training, which is extremely common! Soldiers even DIE in training. Thats how hard and dangerous it can be.

Nah. Ain’t no foam rollers in combat either. You have to be physically capable to deploy to another country for months sometimes years on end and be able to sustain in the field sleeping on the ground with minimal resources including food and water. You must ratio. Imagine if the entire grid went out. No power. Now water supply. No gas. No sewage system. Then surround yourself with people that want you dead. Now survive that. Many of us vets have done exactly that. Many also didn’t live to speak about it. If you can’t hack the. You become a liability to those who can. Those who can’t risk compromising the mission as you may need to be carried by those around you. The general public isn’t ready for that discussion. As far as rest, yes you get rest state stride between training evolutions. Say couple weeks after a 3 month training regiment but during that time you are still expected to pt and maintain overall fitness and health. You still report to your daily job like any other. You’re given a set amount of leave days (vacation) every year. You can use that if you want to sit on your butt and be lazy.

The veterans who are mad that there’s even a discussion about VA disability reform are the same people who go to a dozen restaurants on Veterans Day to collect as many free-meals-for-vets as possible.

I think that voter ID should be able to be obtained at any place we already officially get our identification. Social security office, dmv, etc. but that’s just me. I do believe we need proper id at the time of voting. Yes we send off identification when we register to vote but no one checks your identification at the ballot box that I have seen. Too easy to impersonate others or vote on their behalf.

Everyone. Breaks? You break mentally not physically and then you are rebuilt with a different mindset on everything. You don’t all break physically. Some who don’t have the bodies built for it do and that’s where folks come in with disability who never deployed. Had a guy with me that broke his hip in a he mountains in basic training. Medically seperated and retired for the marine corps. The other 92 of us went on just fine. Learn the system if you’re going to speak on it. If everyone broke we wouldn’t have a military worth a crap.
