@Cait_nicianain@courtsnewsIRL Ted Bundy volunteered on a suicide prevention helpline & was described as “a skilled volunteer who helped troubled callers”. He should have received a suspended sentence really 🙄
The Court of Appeal has rejected the “extraordinary” claim put forward by a Guyanese sex offender, who had only been in Ireland for two weeks before he imprisoned and raped an 18-year-old, that his trial was unfair because he was forced to withdraw his false claims of being of previous good character.

@CraigBaird About 20 years ago I visited St John's, Newfoundland. In a taxi from the airport I thought the driver was taking the proverbial out of my accent. He wasn't. He had ancestry from Wexford. His accent was stronger than mine!
There is a unique dialect of the Irish language that evolved in Newfoundland and became forever linked with the island.
It is called Newfoundland Irish and many work to keep the language alive.
This is the story.

@LivingTricks_ Ireland put in quite a bit of work in in the early 90's, due to the Celtic tiger economic boom starting.
the 20 something males that used to emigrate were able to stay in Ireland to consume their beer at home, + people had more money generally and there was no unit pricing.
Two people have died - one university student and the other understood to be a sixth form pupil - after an outbreak of a rare form of meningococcal disease, a combination of meningitis and septicemia.
The UK Health Security Agency said it is aware of 13 cases in the Canterbury area.
@NickDixonITV reports from the University of Kent where one of those confirmed dead was a student.
It’s Sunday morning, and I haven’t had a cigarette since Thursday morning. After 28 years, I’ve actually managed to quit.
I’m using a vape, which I guess is kind of cheating, but it’s getting me through this, so I’ll take it. Thursday was hard, but Friday I wanted to pull my hair out. Yesterday and today have been easier.
See, the vape provides nicotine, but cigarettes have a whole cocktail of addictive chemicals in them, and each kind is slightly different to encourage brand loyalty. Someone who smokes Marlboros, for example, won’t get quite the same satisfaction if they smoke a Camel.
With the vape, I’m missing out on all of the other addictive chemicals I was getting through my cigarettes, so I’m definitely still having cravings. It is nice not to have to go outside to smoke anymore, though, and I can already tell the difference in my breathing.
@BrentSwancer@joeroganhq I used to say that too (minus the cigars) & I really meant it as it was my only vice & pleasure in life. Off them a year now & I still cannot believe I did it! I feel so much better but I completely understand how you feel. Never say never.
@sappholives83 After a while I ended up vaping non-stop from the time I woke until I went to bed at night. Try not to fall into that habit bc, in the end I was vaping the nicotine equivalent of up to 100 cigarettes a day & that’s what you’ll be withdrawing from. 2/2
@sappholives83 Congrats!!! I’m 1 year of cigarettes & 8 weeks & 2 days off the vape. I was on 2 inhalers for decades. Vaping, I used them a LOT less often than smoking cigarettes. I haven’t needed them at all since quitting vaping. 1/2
@TadhgCalbhaigh@irishexaminer Also, after an assault/murder, “not all men” is insulting to us women bc how do we know which men? Unless the men stick on a wig, a dress & identify as women. Then they’re *totally* safe & we’re bigots to suggest otherwise.
@irishexaminer There is a clear pattern of double standards here. If the rapist is foreign then the "believe all women" narrative is thrown out the window. In the liberal woke caste system the foreigner is always privileged over and above the native.
