Odpowiedziałem: „To nigdy nie są tylko dwa złote”. Nic nie powiedziała. Wracamy do domu. Żona mówi: „Odmówiłeś dzisiaj szpitalowi dziecięcemu, schronisku, edukacji i biednym rodzinom”. Odparłem: „Nie. Odmówiłem czterem wielkim korporacjom, które chcą, żebym sfinansował ich rzekomą dobroczynność, żeby potem mogły to wpisać do swojego raportu rocznego”. Milczała przez chwilę. W końcu mówi: „W sumie masz rację”. „Wiem” – odpowiedziałem. „Ale i tak wychodzisz na potwora”. „Wolę wyjść na potwora, niż przy kasie potulnie sponsorować strategię PR-ową miliardowych firm”. Nie zaprzeczyła.

What Russell did there was dangerous and completely unsportsmanlike. On a restart, with everyone in launch mode, you simply don’t make a move like that. He knew about the drive-through penalty, so was clearly trying to force an escape route.

A rape case was dropped 13 days before trial. Years later, an independent review found it should have gone ahead. But by then, it was too late. Here's why that matters. A woman reported a rape. Three and a half years later, she was preparing for trial. Then the CPS dropped the case. The reason? A sexsomnia defence. The case would never be heard by a jury. Most people thought that was the end. It wasn't. She requested a Victim's Right to Review. An independent Chief Crown Prosecutor reviewed the decision. The conclusion was extraordinary. The case should never have been dropped. In fact, the review found it was more likely than not that a jury would have convicted. But there was a devastating problem. The CPS had already offered no evidence in court. Double jeopardy meant the case could never be reopened. The decision was found to be wrong. The outcome could not be changed. So she sued the CPS. The CPS apologised. They paid damages. They changed policy. And today, there is a pilot scheme that gives victims an option for a review before rape cases are dropped. That woman was me. My case can't be put back before a jury. But others shouldn't have to hear that a case should have gone to trial only after it's too late to do anything about it. That's why I'm campaigning for victims to have a review before cases are dropped. And for the current pilot to become permanent. Not after. I told the parents clearly: if they wanted to press charges against me for the slap, I'd press charges against their son for sexual harassment. For stripping me in front of my daughter and complete strangers, and for touching me without my consent. We were all asked to leave the pool. I was sitting in the car, shaking and humiliated, clutching my top tightly closed against me, while my husband drove home in silence. Then he finally said: "Did you really have to hit him that hard? He's just a kid. You probably could've just yelled. Now we might end up with charges against us." Just a kid. A kid who thought it was funny to half-strip a woman in public. A kid whose parents have clearly taught him that a woman's body is a playground for "stupid jokes." Am I wrong for reacting with my hands instead of words when a stranger yanked on my clothes to expose me? And for refusing to apologize for defending my dignity in front of my daughter?
