Today, for the fourth consecutive year, I was honored to join the Memorial Day ceremony at Calverton National Cemetery to pay tribute to the brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. These sacred grounds are the final resting place of more than 275,000 Veterans and their loved ones. As a Navy Veteran who now serves on the committee that funds the VA and our national cemeteries, I know America would not be the greatest nation the world has ever known were it not for generations of patriots who wore our nation’s uniform, many giving their very lives in defense of our freedom. We honor their sacrifice by carrying forward their legacy through service to our communities, and love of country. God bless our fallen heroes, their families, and the United States of America.

Trump just threw a massive wrench into the Iran negotiations. In a lengthy new post, Trump said it should be “mandatory” that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and others sign onto the Abraham Accords as part of any deal involving Iran. That comes after Trump reportedly stunned leaders of several Arab and Muslim nations during a Saturday conference call by demanding they normalize relations with Israel if an Iran war deal is reached. According to U.S. officials familiar with the call, leaders, especially from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan, which do not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel, were caught completely off guard. “There was silence on the line and Trump joked and asked if they are still there,” one official said. Now Trump is publicly escalating the demand, saying countries that refuse “should not be part of this Deal.” Saudi Arabia has repeatedly said normalization with Israel requires an irreversible path toward a Palestinian state, something Netanyahu’s government flatly rejects. Trump is now trying to force some of the most politically sensitive diplomatic issues in the Middle East into an already fragile Iran negotiation.

I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since I asked the prettiest girl in school out on our first date. Even as teenagers, Kaylie and I were crazy about each other, and not long after, I left for Plebe Summer at Annapolis, where we wrote each other letters every single day. Military life and deployments are not easy on any relationship, and over the years we broke up a few times before finding our way back to each other for good in 2006. We married on New Year’s Eve in 2008, and ever since, life has moved at full speed. Three daughters, graduate degrees for both of us, homes, weekends away at lacrosse, swim and dance competitions, Congress, and countless memories later, it’s been a wild and wonderful ride with my best friend.

As Nassau County Executive, I didn't raise taxes a single penny in 4 years and made Nassau the safest county in America. When I am Governor, I will bring that record to all of New York.
