@joehall Most people just post pics of their food, rather than bragging about it! :P

@lilyraynyc Seems to me Google should be asking YOU for travel planning advice!

Maybe I’m a stubborn old lady but the last thing I want is AI giving me travel advice. I already struggle with recommendations from humans. 😂🤭 The entire joy of using search engines was to go down those rabbit holes on my own terms.

A new cat and mouse game? -> Nightshade, a free tool letting artists “poison” AI models that attempt to train on their artwork without permission, is now available to download on Mac and PC "It applies a tag that subtly alters the image at the pixel level so other AI programs see something totally different than what’s actually there." venturebeat.com/ai/nightshade-…

This article by @markcandour is one of the best SEO articles I’ve read in a long time. It provides some great explanations and ideas about why the influx of AI-generated content has been a big challenge for Google, and how Reddit/UGC may be involved searchengineland.com/googles-shifti…

@glenngabe Agreed! And maybe I'm missing something, but I fail to see how it can end up revenue-positive.

SGE continues to evolve. I'm now seeing what I'm calling "SGE lite" in the SERPs. SGE doesn't trigger a large block by default anymore... it's now much smaller with a large "Show more" button. Again, IMO SGE will not roll out unless it's revenue-neutral or positive... Stay tuned:

@dawnieando I agree, in terms of relevance judgment, but I would think (hope?) they'd continue to use humans to assess credibility/trust questions.

I suspect this is going to have a monumental impact should Google also go down this route. Could signal the end of reliance on human quality raters and the quality raters guide etc for relevance evaluation. It's massive.
Mark Sanderson@IR_oldie

Incredible talk from @pt_ir, Bing now uses GPT-4 for its relevance judgements. It is producing more accurate labels than crowd sourcing and search has substantially improved. Synthetic labels have been a holy grail of retrieval research for decades. @rmit_cidda @RMITComputing

IMO Gary is NOT saying links don't matter. He's just explaining that links are not as powerful of a factor as they used to be. Remember, Google is using machine learning w/major algo updates. There could be thousands of signals sent to a ML system, and the system dictates weighting, which then dictates rankings. It's complex...
