Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are. What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are. I want to thank the brave men and women of the NYPD who acted quickly to keep New Yorkers safe. Our officers ran toward danger without hesitation, demonstrating once again the courage and dedication it takes to protect this city every single day. My administration is closely monitoring the situation and I remain in close contact with our Police Commissioner.

"Not unreasonable" to show an ID to vote? Sen. John Fetterman can twist it all he wants with a double negative but the SAVE Act with its Voter ID rules is Jim Crow 2.0. Republicans want to roll the clock back 60 years to before LBJ signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Blacks were denied the vote by poll taxes, literacy tests and all-white primaries. The SAVE Act is a backdoor way to bring back discrimination. Discrimination against blacks, Hispanics, younger voters, senior citizens and lower- and middle-income voters. 18% of blacks have no driver’s license and 10% have a license with a noncurrent address/name, 15% of Hispanics have no driver’s license and 12% have a license with a noncurrent address/name, compared to just 5% of whites who have no driver’s license and 13% have a license with a noncurrent name. The aim of Voter ID is to deny the vote to more blacks and Hispanics than whites to rig elections to favor Republicans. There is virtually no voting by aliens. But the purpose of Voter ID isn't to prevent the virtually nonexistent voting by aliens. It's to deny voting rights to 21 million Americans who are more likely to vote Democrat.

As Vice President, I have had the privilege of visiting Arlington National Cemetery several times. It is a solemn place; a place where we come together to honor American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service of this nation. It is not a place for politics. And yet, as was reported this week, Donald Trump’s team chose to film a video there, resulting in an altercation with cemetery staff. Let me be clear: the former president disrespected sacred ground, all for the sake of a political stunt. This is nothing new from Donald Trump. This is a man who has called our fallen service members “suckers” and “losers” and disparaged Medal of Honor recipients. A man who, during a previous visit to the cemetery, reportedly said of fallen service members, “I don’t get it. What was in it for them?” This is a man who is unable to comprehend anything other than service to himself. If there is one thing on which we as Americans can all agree, it is that our veterans, military families, and service members should be honored, never disparaged, and treated with nothing less than our highest respect and gratitude. And it is my belief that someone who cannot meet this simple, sacred duty should never again stand behind the seal of the President of the United States of America. I will always honor the service and sacrifice of all of America’s fallen heroes, who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our beloved nation and our cherished freedoms. I mourn them and salute them. And I will never politicize them.
