Group Captain Douglas Bader, the RAF’s legendary legless fighter ace, scored 22 aerial victories in WWII after losing both legs in a 1931 crash.
Captured in 1941, he repeatedly tried to escape, forcing the Germans to confiscate his artificial legs to stop him.
What a hero!
