He could genuinely hit like this for the rest of the year (he won’t) and it would still have been brilliant to dump him. This is the best he will ever be, and he’s still owed $220 million.

I do think some people are overstating the direness of the Red Sox long-term outlook. They essentially have their entire rotation locked in and a core of young controllable position players They obv need another bat and to clear out some of the vets, but there are much worse
