@PoliticsIsLoca1 @DPearsonPHL Not accurate. In PA, speed cameras are authorized by law as civil penalties issued to the vehicle owner, not criminal moving violations. They don’t carry points, and courts have upheld this

@DPearsonPHL my dude every single ticket challenged under these grounds is dismissed. State must prove the driver was operating that vehicle, which it cannot when issued ticket to a vehicle itself. Just because people are dumb and pay a bill in the mail doesn't make it legal or constitutional

I'm honestly a little shocked at how smoothly the rollout of speed cameras across Philadelphia has gone. Outside of influencer types (and the worst member of Council) there's no substantial opposition so far. inquirer.com/transportation…

@Thrivin096 @_NotA_Bot_ No, you set the price that guarantee ~85% occupancy. Thus, by definition, you have a nearly full lot & guaranteed space available. When prices are too low you leave money on the table & riders don't know if space will be available. See The High Cost of Free Parking by Shoup

@_NotA_Bot_ You would 100% dissuade outer city limits/inner burbs from riding the train vs parking

One SEPTA revenue generation strategy I haven't yet seen proposed: Updating parking rates at regional rail stations to target 85% occupancy at peak. Flat fees across the entire system don't make sense when there is varying demand, and $2 per day is far too low when lots fill.

@JohnnyWalsh__ Pretty disappointing field. I agree most with Rabb’s views, but I’m not sure he’ll be an effective voice in Congress.

Unlike other cities being squeezed by high housing costs, Philly has nearly two dozen surface parking lots in it’s walkable, transit-rich downtown, some nearly 70 years old. Here’s some ideas for putting them back into productive use. inquirer.com/columnists/cen…

@DPearsonPHL The proven part is essential. There are experts & tons transportation engineering/urban planning literature proving what is effective. IDK why when there's a health crisis electeds rely on experts epidemiologists & other experts for policy but for things like this they wing it

This is in part because we haven't embraced proven strategies, like road diets. Camera enforcement is great, we can also use more police enforcement, but we also have to be willing to embrace changes on commercial corridors. We can't afford more Washington Avenues.

On Sunday, Philadelphia had equal numbers of homicides and traffic deaths. While the city has seen killings decline by nearly 80% since pandemic-era highs, progress on traffic deaths has been much slower. inquirer.com/opinion/editor…

@JohnnyWalsh__ City Council could literally improve the system for FREE by removing zoning restrictions around transit stops and getting out of the f-ing way of the bus revolution. Cost the tax payers ZERO dollars and could add increase annual ridership by millions.

The only route to combatting deep poverty, improving our schools and transit systems, and funding our parks and libraries is embracing the kind of growth that raises all boats, rather than producing a tiny amount that gets divvied up among insiders.

I'm glad that this topic is finally getting the attention from the city's elites that is deserves. We have suffered through decades of stagnation. At the heart of it is complacency, a lack of regional cooperation, & an obsession with dividing the spoils. phillymag.com/news/2026/03/2…

@DPearsonPHL Council member's offices have no internal expertise on the issue so they rely on their judgement and vibes. They wouldn't do so with issues of public health where they would seek council from experts.

Philadelphia City Council seems committed to the idea that by blocking development, even workforce housing, they can prevent displacement. It is a strategy that has literally never worked anywhere it's been tried. inquirer.com/opinion/sherif…

Sidewalk parking violations issued are up 150% since 2023, with some work to be done on crosswalks & double parking. If the heads of all city agencies were as ruthlessly efficient as Rich Lazer, we’d have the best municipal government in America

There’s been a lot of conversation about speed cameras on Broad Street. Here’s what matters. Speeding kills. And Broad Street has seen too much of it. This isn’t about revenue. It’s about saving lives and delivering on Vision Zero. Zero traffic deaths. Vision Zero is built on community input and shared responsibility. Safety has to be the standard everywhere, including how we think about fairness across speed zones. Philadelphia’s Deputy Managing Director for @PhillyOTIS, Mike Carroll, breaks it down in this video. #OnePhilly means safer streets for everyone.

@PhillyMayor It’s about revenue. Once the cameras stop making money they find another area to “keep safe” and make more money. It’s a scam
