@Samstricko181 Agreed. It’s like someone producing evidence that kissing your wife goodbye in the morning isn’t effective.

Homework… unpopular view but homework has a valid place, more so in secondary to support pupils to revise for the GCSEs & to get pupils into an A Level mindset. I question the ‘research’ that it’s ineffectual.

I know it sounds mundane but maybe the best thing you can do to install strong, healthy learning routines in your classroom is to plan your directions in advance & just maybe practice them a few times: "When I say go--but not before I say go--you will have 30 seconds to jot down your first thoughts about the data set on the board. Please be sure to work silently. Afterwards I'll ask a few of you to share your thoughts. Pencils ready? Go!"

@TeachLeadAAli I don’t really understand that response. You finished your first message by asking for thoughts. My thoughts are that visiting a school and writing a report is less meaningful than you seem to think it is!

@beyondgoodpod Now there’s the reminder to me why I never usually bother replying to people who don’t show their face or have a description. Take care.

This is becoming very popular… Today I spent a day carrying out learning walks in a school that I spent a day delivering CPD too previously. I visited 35 lessons. I tracked students across the day. I dropped in and out. I saw the start, middle and end of lessons and look at changeovers. I walked around with each Head of Faculty. I offered supportive critique and provocations. I then spent time after school with a department who wanted more support with adaptive practice. What an honour. I’ve just finished my “report” showcasing the spot lights, suggesting potential areas for development along with as usual, lots of low effort, high impact strategies they could consider. Thoughts?

@beyondgoodpod Easy and hard are subjective. When facing or receiving the right tools things become different for us all.

@TeachLeadAAli Yes. So there’s the easy bit…going into lessons and giving your views in a report. Then there’s the proper, hard work of creating teacher change.

@beyondgoodpod Interesting… with the report and actions it’s on the slt, the line managers to maintain change.

@TeachLeadAAli Thoughts are that I love it…..but it will probably lead to zero change. Staff you say nice things about will think “Thank you very much” ones with significant development points will either dismiss or not understand how to action.

@MbarkCherguia I’ve tried Dave Chappelle so many times. I just don’t see it. Great story teller but I just don’t see it.

‘Headmaster’, or ‘Headmistress’. What are your feelings on seeing these words, instead of seeing ‘headteacher’, or Principal? #wordshavepower

Six high-leverage teaching and learning techniques that we’ll be working on for the rest of the academic year - using group rehearsal and coaching to refine. @adamboxer1 and @mrbartonmaths any tips from the experts?

For 15 years, schools have become exam factories. Teachers have forgotten to do anything else. They don't have the skillset anymore to focus on motivation, mindset and skills development.

Have you ever done something that nobody has ever done before? @BenRiceTeach and I had this crazy idea to film lessons in a way that's completely new and a bit mad, so we're back at the home of great Teaching and Learning for two days of filming it to see if we can do it 👀👀

@RogersHistory Same with a headteacher saying that OFSTED is toxic and not fit for purpose but then plastering their Ofsted results all over the website if they’re good.

A consultant always strongly criticising OFSTED whilst selling books and resources and advice cashing in on OFSTED. Those two just can’t sit together in any kind of authentic way IMO.

WHY ARE TEACHERS LEAVING THE PROFESSION? •Lack of support •Class sizes •They are worked to the bone •Low salaries •Their time isn’t respected •Better opportunities elsewhere •Inadequate preparation for new teachers •Little to no student accountability
