10/n Thank you Hon Governor Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot @TCGEHLOT, for wisely returning the "Karnataka Tank Conservation & Development Authority Amendment Bill 2025", as it portends grave dangers to the well being of the state. But it is no time to celebrate! We have a long distance to go. We need to double our efforts! For instance, once the Govt submits its clarifications to the Governor's note, ❔ The Governor may give his assent, in which case we may need to explore the option of judicial review, and challenge it in the courts. ❔ Or the Governor may reject the bill, in which case, we may rejoice. ❔ Or considering the serious Constitutional questions, he may refer the bill to the President, in which case, the bill may undergo thorough constitutional scrutiny. This bill if passed into law, will spell doom for nearly 45,000 lakes, causing unimaginable damage to the state's ecology and environment, harming crores of trees, negatively impacting biodiversity amounting to billions of living beings, wrecking groundwater, farming, livelihoods of lakhs of farmers and fishermen, and the food security of crores of people, apart from destroying the foundation of the state - its economy! It may create a state-wide water, ecological and economic crisis, leading to water wars, mass migrations, and worsen the climate crisis that the state is already grappling with. The state is already witnessing severe farm distress; with this it will intensify further. In a city like Bengaluru, which has already lost 98% of its green blue cover, this will snuff out whatever little nature is left in the city. Bengaluru is left with a mere 2% green blue cover, is it in any way justifiable to mess around with this? World-wide, cities are trying to increase green blue cover to 30% or 40%, and here our senseless politicians are plotting to destroy the last remaining 2%? What are they thinking, seriously? Let us hope that good sense prevails, and that the Govt realises its folly and withdraws the bill. As it were, the Govt is facing so much flak about all the other mindless decisions it is taking. Can't it at least spare the little bit of environment that is remaining in the state, so that our next generations may have a home left? Can't the ministers in the Govt look beyond their own noses? OR DOES THIS GOVT WISH TO BE REMEMBERED IN HISTORY AS THE "DESTROYER OF KARNATAKA'S LAKES"?
