Europe is LOSING the AI race and is absolutely COOKED. Ok. Why are so many of the leading models being built in Europe then? > ElevenLabs (@elevenlabs) is the leading text to speech model, which is 2x as good as OpenAI, its closest competitor. > Black Forest Labs (@bfl_ml) one of the leaders in text to image generation used by Meta, Adobe and Microsoft > Synthesia (@synthesiaIO) the leader in AI avatars which has developed its own incredibly powerful models Today another model in Europe has raised a huge round. This time its @MireloAI which has developed a leading text to sound model that creates accompanying sound for videos. It's just announced raising a $41m seed from @IndexVentures (@GeorgiaS_IV ) and @a16z (@appenz). The founders (CJ Simon-Gabriel and Florian Wenzel) behind the company are two absolutely CRACKED builders: >Both have PHDs in Machine Learning > Met each other while working as AI researchers at AWS Labs > Both also accomplished musicians These two combine contextual expertise, academic excellence and AI research to create an amazing founder combination. Europe needs more companies like this. Sure - Europe is behind on LLMs. But it's also the most capital intensive and competitive area to build models in. VERY bullish on European Models

@chainyoda It's mostly because people are selfish and self-centered. It's all excuses. Life without kids is no life.

This “cost of having children” discussion for middle class people is unreal. My folks had nothing when I was born and I had very little when my kids were born. When we’re serious about bringing up our children, we find a way to spend less on whatever other shit we spend on

@alexanderhupfer Nobody wants to admit there's a huge luck factor. They won't admit it because that would make them less unique and undermine the storytelling they need to raise more funds from limited partners.

In 2008, VCs passed on Shopify. Their logic: "There are only 40,000 online stores globally. Even if you get 50%, that's not enough." What they missed: Shopify was the solution to the very problem they stated. There were only 40,000 stores because no one made it easy to start one.

@MikeIppolito_ Once the mind is bored, it will seek any dopamine hit, and this is the difference between a gambler and a trader. Traders have systems to avoid changing their minds based on emotions. Your counterparty knows about your feelings.

As I told @MariaBartiromo last week, U.S. financial markets are poised to move on-chain. Under my leadership, @SECGov is prioritizing innovation and embracing new technologies to enable this on-chain future, while continuing to protect investors.

Michael Burry now has over 156k+ subscribers on his Substack that he started not even a month ago. He has a monthly sub ($39/month) and a free tier version. Let's assume he has just a 10% conversion rate, which I think is fair for someone of his notoriety. That's $608,400/month before the ~15% fees through SS. So $517,140ish net a month or $6,205,680 a year. And that # likely will continue to grow. Basically the equivalent of running a $310M AUM hedge fund and charging a 2% management fee. But without any of the stress. Are my #'s off?

⚡️ A U.S. startup says cheap autonomous turrets could flip the drone war. Sentradel says its machine-vision turrets can detect and destroy FPV drones for a fraction of the cost of missiles, warning the West is losing an asymmetric fight.

you raise money then want to raise more so you hire a bunch of busy workers who burn through your $ and spruce up useless metrics so you can show growth to raise more money before a liquidity event after which you let your project bleed to death. many such cases, what a waste.

Interesting read “Glass Slipper effect: be the first to fit a new workload, and the princess never leaves”
Teng Yan@tengyanAI

The biggest AI usage report of 2025 just dropped (100 trillion tokens of real usage on OpenRouter) 8 findings that I was most surprised by: 1. Roleplay & creative fiction are the 2nd largest category and >50% of all open-source usage. Uncensored models are swallowing the demand for "fan-fic" and NSFW content. 2. Programming is now >50% of all LLM tokens. It was 11% twelve months ago. Coding literally became the operating system of AI. 3. Anthropic’s Claude is used for >80% programming and almost zero roleplay. It is the “serious work” model while DeepSeek is the entertainment king (with 2/3 roleplay traffic) 4. A model that the 1st to nail a painful workload creates near-permanent lock-in. Early 2025 cohorts of Claude 4 Sonnet and Gemini 2.5 Pro still retain 40–50% of users six months later while every later cohort churns. They call it the Glass Slipper effect: be the first to fit a new workload, and the princess never leaves. 5. Demand is wildly price-inelastic. Users happily pay 10–50× more per token for Claude or GPT-5 if it saves them ten minutes of debugging. Being cheap is nowhere near enough. 6. The new sweet-spot model size is 20–70B parameters. Small models are getting low usage, giant models are fragmenting, and the medium tier is eating both. 7. Open-source models went from <5% to ~33% of total usage in one year, almost entirely driven by Chinese labs (DeepSeek, Qwen, Moonshot, MiniMax). There is no longer a single best model. The top ten models by volume are from eight different labs. 8. Asia is now 31% of global spend (was 13% a year ago). Singapore + China + Korea alone are almost 20% of all tokens. The era of one foundation model to rule them is over. We now live in a permanently fragmented world where the model you use depends entirely on what you're doing with it - writing code? writing fanfics? Anyway, there's clearly only one direction for token spend: Up and to the right Full report from @a16z + @openrouter (link in comments).
