This was the contribution in the afternoon from @Dabinderjit at the international conference in Baku, Azerbaijan on 16 January 2026 organised by the @bauinitiative He was asked to speak about the activism and experiences of the Sikh Diaspora in the UK. He spoke about the first recorded Sikh settler – Maharaja Duleep Singh, mass migration from 1955-1975 after the British Nationality Act 1948 and how Sikhs in Britain became politically active in the late 1970s and after 1984 in particular, in the campaign for a sovereign Sikh State, Khalistan.

This was the opening address by @Dabinderjit at the conference in Baku, Azerbaijan on 16 January 2026 organised by the @bakuinitiative This set the tone for the wide ranging conversations and discussions that followed about Sikhs, the Sikh way of life and challenges faced. Expect the British role in terms of annexation of the Sikh Kingdom in 1849, the Anglo-Sikh history as the colonial power over the next 100 years, the disaster of Partition in 1947 and Britain’s inability to publicly challenge the Indian authorities for wrongdoings in the last 80 years to be exposed on the international stage.

Following this afternoons news of the arrest of a 49-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman from Sandwell for the racially aggravated rape of a young Sikh woman in her 20s on Tuesday 9 September Inderjit Kaur for the Sikh Federation UK) said: “We welcome the arrests today in connection with the racially aggravated rape of a young Sikh woman in her 20s on Tuesday 9 September.” “It is a shame these arrests have taken so long and only came after another woman in her 30s was raped yesterday in Halesowen.” “Previously a man in his 30s was arrested by the police on 14 September and a couple of days later released on bail without charge pending further enquiries.” “We hope this time the police have sufficient evidence to charge those responsible for these disgusting attacks and rapes of two young women.” “We will continue to keep up the pressure until the perpetrators of these crimes are successfully prosecuted and behind bars.”

This is the @itvnews coverage this evening of the brutal racist sexual attack on a Sikh woman in her 20s. Thank you to local MPs like @UKLabour @PreetKGillMP @SarahCoombesWB @gsjosan for condemning the violent attack on Tuesday morning. We are still waiting for condemnation from @ShabanaMahmood the new Home Secretary (she represents the neighbouring constituency) and @ukhomeoffice that have been approached by @BBCNews We are unable to share details of the vicious assault by two white men as we need to protect the identity of the victim and her family and not to jeopardise the police investigation by @WMPolice Thank you to @SikhYouthUk for supporting the victim and her family and @GNGSmethwick for liaising with @WMPolice and holding a public meeting today to reassure the local Sikh community with a rise in violent racist attacks in recent weeks in the West Midlands. @Keir_Starmer needs as part of the reset to honour his video promise of addressing Anti-Sikh hate ignored by successive governments since 9/11 24 years ago.
