Cloudflare is appealing a €14 million fine from Italy's communications regulator (AGCOM). The fine came after Cloudflare refused to join Piracy Shield, a system that forces DNS providers to quickly block websites and IP addresses accused of piracy Cloudflare says this risks blocking innocent sites and harming the open internet.

@levelsio I don’t even expose the traffic I use cloudflare tunnels so the IP is never revealed and limit SSH to my fixed home IP

When I set up a new Hetzner VPS first thing I do install Tailscale and once I'm in via Tailscale lock down the firewall to only accept web traffic on HTTPS 443 for Cloudflare IPs and SSH 22 for Tailscale IP That way nobody can get in I know I keep repeating this but it should be basics of setting up a new VPS So basic IMHO it should be part of any VPS service to default install Tailscale and enable it so it's the only way to get in Why? A VPS server is just like your laptop or destop computer but now imagine if it's connected to the entire internet with 8 billion people that can access it and try hack it You want to only have it accessible to you And if you want to host a website on your VPS (like I do), you should only let Cloudflare access your VPS so it can stand in front and block any hack attempts Never expose a VPS to the world wide web which realistically is the world WILD web

@thekitze Ubuntu server with docker installed that lets you skip most of the commands to spin up your VMs and containers through their UI and tools. And thats the tip of the iceberg

> then he stops working on it there's a difference between not working on something and working on something locally here's what happened: 4 months ago, i started opencut. i quickly spun up a repo. it was very vibe-coded. prs came in, i accepted them all with minimal review. 90% of these prs were vibe-coded as well. the codebase grew a lot, and i knew it wouldn't hold together for very long. i started working on a complete codebase overhaul for a month. i was stupid enough to not version control it. got malware, reset my pc, forgot to copy opencut to another drive (i thought i had done it), lost a month of work. at this point, i started working on the refactor again all the way from the bottom, and since then, i've been working on it locally. this will eventually get pushed when it's done (still needs a lot of work, though i've done a lot by now) and the codebase will be entirely different. it's actually gonna be scalable. a codebase you'd expect for a real video editor. can't wait to share more <3
