AI is a map from question to answer, but humans are the ones with the questions to answer and goals to fulfill. Today, AI does set instrumental goals for itself, to meet higher-level goals set by humans. As models get smarter... the agents could set higher level goals, but can never know what you want without communication. Knowing what you want, not necessarily how to do it, will be the role of humanity. Nothing wrong with that!

@jaltma @ryaneshea After Artificial Superintelligence, what exactly would an average person (of IQ 100) be able to contribute to society?

I might be too much of an optimist but I just donโ€™t buy the permanent underclass thing. I just think no matter how smart AI gets, thereโ€™s no way a motivated person will wake up each day and be unable to contribute to society.

Shopify is a mecca for engineers because of the culture set by Tobi When the CEO is coding and hacking and tinkering for the love of the game, it sets the tone for the org And itโ€™s why a Canadian company has attracted world class technical talent
Amit R G@realamitrg

CEO of Shopify @tobi is shipping more code than ever. 2024: 94 commits 2025: 833 commits 2026: 957 commits (in first 45 days of the year) Claude is turning CEOs back to builder mode.

Why do we want this? Modern compilers are extremely efficient. Having human readable code as a record of what is done is surely a good thing?
Dustin@r0ck3t23

Elon Musk thinks coding dies this year. Not evolves. Dies. By December, AI wonโ€™t need programming languages. It generates machine code directly. Binary optimized beyond anything human logic could produce. No translation. No compilation. Just pure execution. Musk: โ€œYou donโ€™t even bother doing coding.โ€ Code was never the point. It was friction. A tax we paid because machines didnโ€™t speak human. AI just learned fluent human. The tax is gone. Now plug that into Neuralink. No syntax. No keyboard. No screen. Musk: โ€œImagination-to-software.โ€ Thought becomes executable. You imagine an outcome, the system architects and compiles it into reality instantly. Weโ€™re not automating programming. Weโ€™re erasing it from existence. The entire profession collapses into a thought. Decades of training reduced to irrelevance. The gap between idea and instantiation hits zero. You donโ€™t build anymore. You imagine, and it materializes. Not incremental progress. Total phase shift. The way humans have created things for ten thousand years just became obsolete. Welcome to a world where the limiting factor isnโ€™t skill, resources, or time. Itโ€™s whether you can picture what you want clearly enough for a machine to birth it into existence.

@filpizlo @zuhaitz_dev These terms have no definition and even if you did define them I don't see what the purpose would be. Rust is low-level. So what? No, actually, Rust is high-level. Wow, that changes everything! (it doesn't.) Useless debate, tbh.

Rust is a systems programming language. C++ is a systems programming language. C is a systems programming language. None are low level. Now, it is true that, after years, decades, the low level bar has increased. For a React developer these languages are low level. I could understand classifying these as mid-level, mainly C, but that's pretty much it.

@LowLevelTweets I love my setup. Wireguard VPN back to the house, routes all internet traffic. Only connection I trust, anywhere in the world, is my home ISP, because I kinda have to. As a bonus I get to run internal sites for myself, accessible to no one, but globally accessible for me.

@vxunderground VPNs being marketed as a security product is legitimately one of the greatest downfalls of the internet age. Maybe like 15+ years ago when HTTPS wasnโ€™t as widely used or when SSL was the encryption but in this age of HTTP over TLS itโ€™s largely unnecessary

@zekramu 22% -> 18% is the performance change measured in this article and it is reported at $127,000/yr. A higher quality analysis would be to figure out why it's faster, and share some evidence.

Donโ€™t you think that game developers will respond with moving to a SaaS model? If you pay $2.99/mo for access to online gameplay, then they can shut it down anytime. I feel like this law sounds good on paper but doesnโ€™t account for the reasons why game developers shut down their services. If I want to put out an indie game tomorrow, but Iโ€™m somehow legally obligated to keep the online services running indefinitelyโ€ฆ then I donโ€™t think I would choose offer online services at all.
