@SamsonTmeyer Mangum sadly. I like him well enough, he seems like a great OF defender, but that's limited value if most of it is going to come in a corner. There are projections that have him at sub 80 wrc+, would rather have him on the 40 than not but man I don't want this guy starting.

It's very funny people think there's no chance the guy who didn't reach the majors until he was 29 and put up post prime Adam Frazier peripherals doing it might need optioned at some point or even better, think he should hit leadoff and get the most ABs of anyone on the team.

@SamsonTmeyer @ScoringChanges The catcher places his mask on top of the ball. Clear case of someone understanding the detached equipment rule. I had to look up the rule specifically, then watch the clip again, then noticed he didn't use his glove the entire time.

So I hate ill informed posts like these that make people think something is true when it isn’t. This is NOT a “catcher’s balk”. This is an error for detached equipment. It’s an advancement error (not an assumed out error) and is scored as E2. Fun fact at one time this was a two-base error, but it’s just one now. Incidentally, a catcher cannot balk, only a pitcher can. If a catcher is NOT in the box when a pitch is thrown, that is a balk on the pitcher, because it’s incumbent on the pitcher to not throw the ball in that instance. There is NO SUCH THING as a “catcher’s balk”.

Alec Bohm 2026 Projections ZiPS: 560 PA, .282 BA, .332 OBP, .431 SLG (.763 OPS), 15 HR, 1.8 WAR Steamer: 532 PA, .275 BA, .330 OBP, .425 SLG (.755 OPS), 14 HR, 2.1 WAR I’m sure you’re asking — when did the Pirates trade for Alec Bohm? They haven’t. I was fully prepared to write the morning-after reflection on their shiny new Japanese acquisition, so instead I decided to pivot (yes, PIVOT!) to the player I think is the most realistic solution to the gaping hole at third base. I was also inspired by how aggressively negative Pirates Twitter has been about Bohm as a solution. Where others see an imperfect third baseman, I see a market inefficiency -- specifically, a Phillies team with long-term payroll pressures, a player entering his walk year, and a Pirates front office that looks for value buys over trophy purchases. If the Pirates can move Joey Bart and his contract back to Philadelphia while acquiring Bohm, that’s a solution worth exploring further. Why Not Eugenio Suárez? The Okamoto sweepstakes told us something important: the Pirates were stretched to make a competitive offer. Beat reporter Alex Stumpf has since noted the club isn’t planning any other splash free-agent signings. With a left-handed starter still needed, I don’t see Suárez in black and gold in 2026. Bohm, on the other hand? ZiPS and Steamer are remarkably aligned here. A .750-ish OPS with 14–15 home runs is what a reasonable expectation would be for Kazuma Okamoto in his first MLB season. If that stat line was acceptable from Japan, it’s hard to understand why it’s unacceptable from Bohm. I’ll use this column to make an argument for Bohm as a fine backup plan having missed on Okamoto. #ProjectingthePirates #WinterofBen

The president offered multiple off ramps, but was very clear throughout this process: the drug trafficking must stop, and the stolen oil must be returned to the United States. Maduro is the newest person to find out that President Trump means what he says. Kudos to our brave special operators who pulled off a truly impressive operation.
